2021 Tata Altroz XZ Petrol Review: Price, Features, and Interior

The Tata Altroz is a premium hatchback known for its impressive features and strong build quality. It stands out in its segment as a very safe car, having received a 5-star safety rating from Global NCAP.

Striking Exterior Design

The Altroz boasts a distinctive exterior with an excellent side profile. At the front, it features a large Tata logo complemented by a glossy black grille. Projector headlamps and daytime running lights (DRLs) enhance its modern look. The front bumper includes a cut for the tow hook, which adds a sporty touch to its design. Black elements are thoughtfully placed on the car’s profile, contributing to its stylish appearance. Fog lamps with an integrated design are also present. The Altroz offers 165mm of ground clearance.

From the side, the Altroz is equipped with side indicators placed on the fender. In higher variants, the outside rearview mirrors (ORVMs) are auto-foldable, automatically folding when the car is locked and unfolding when unlocked. These variants also feature 16-inch alloy wheels with Tata branding. The Altroz comes with disc brakes at the front and drum brakes at the rear. A unique black element on the C-pillar adds a distinct look to the rear profile.

The rear of the Altroz includes drum brakes and a reverse parking camera for convenience. It also features a rear wiper, defogger, and a high-mounted stop light. Reflectors are integrated into the rear design. The boot opens easily and provides a spacious 345 liters of storage, complete with a parcel tray and a boot light. A 14-inch spare tire is also provided.

Engine and Performance

The Altroz offers two engine options: a petrol engine and a diesel engine.

The 1.2-liter Revotron petrol engine has a displacement of 1199 cc. It produces 86 PS of power and 113 Nm of torque, offering a mileage of 19.2 kmpl.

The 1.5-liter Revotorq diesel engine is highly regarded. It delivers 90 PS of power and 200 Nm of torque, with an impressive mileage of 25 kmpl.

Both engines are paired with a 5-speed manual transmission. The Altroz also offers drive modes, including Eco and Sport, allowing drivers to switch between them.

Comfortable Interior and Technology

Inside, the Altroz features a dual-tone interior design that offers a premium feel. The cabin is well-appointed with features like power window controls, ORVM controls, and tweeters on the doors. Each door includes a bottle holder, additional storage space, and a speaker. The driver’s seat is height-adjustable for optimal comfort.

The instrument cluster features an analog speedometer on the left and an RPM meter on the right, displaying information such as check lights. The steering wheel includes controls for the infotainment system, calls, and music, along with Tata branding.

The Altroz is equipped with a 7-inch infotainment system that supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. This system is connected to four speakers, providing an excellent audio experience. The dashboard includes a hazard light button and stylish AC vents with chrome accents. Automatic AC is available for climate control. Other conveniences include a 12V power socket, a USB port, and storage compartments.

The Altroz also features ambient lighting on the doors, which illuminates when the doors are opened, adding to the premium cabin experience. The glove box is quite large and includes a cooling function. Above the rearview mirror, there is a sunglass holder and a microphone. A vanity mirror is available for the front passenger. The engine can be started and stopped with a convenient push-button start/stop system.

For rear passengers, the cabin offers dedicated AC vents and a charging socket. There is ample legroom and headroom, ensuring comfort during journeys.

Safety and Pricing

The Tata Altroz is renowned for its excellent safety. It has achieved a 5-star Global NCAP safety rating, making it one of the safest cars in its segment.
