2022 Tata Tiago XZ Plus CNG: Best Safety and Features in a CNG Car

Tiago i-CNG XZ+: India’s Safest Hatchback with Smart Features

The Tiago i-CNG XZ+ is known as one of India’s safest hatchbacks, offering a blend of design, performance, and advanced technology. This top model comes with a stylish flip key featuring Tata branding.

Striking Exterior Design and Color Options

The Tiago i-CNG XZ+ boasts an attractive front profile. It is available in a Midnight Plum color, which is exclusive to the top model. The front features a large Tata logo and a Tri-arrow design grille with chrome inserts, extending to the headlamps. Projector headlamps and indicators are provided, along with fog lamps that have a chrome finish. Day Night Running Lights (DRLs) are also included. The lower grille is black, complementing the stylish front bumper.

The car offers a good ground clearance of 168 mm. It has a dual wiper setup with washers and a plain roof. A dual-tone roof option is also available for the top model. The Tiago i-CNG XZ+ comes in five color options: Red, White, Grey, Blue, and Midnight Plum. The dual-tone option is only for the top model.

Car Dimensions and Wheels

The dimensions of this hatchback include a length of 3765 mm, a width of 1677 mm, and a height of 1535 mm. It has a wheelbase of 2400 mm and a turning radius of 4.9 meters, making it easy to maneuver.

The car features 14-inch steel wheels that resemble alloys, fitted with wheel covers displaying Tata branding. The tire size is 175/65 R14. The ORVMs (Outside Rear View Mirrors) are body-colored, auto-foldable, and include integrated indicators. The A-pillar is also body-colored, while the B-pillars are blacked out. The door handles come with a chrome finish.

Smart Interior and Driver Controls

Inside, the Tiago i-CNG XZ+ offers a well-designed front dashboard with a good infotainment system. A key change in this CNG variant is the easily accessible CNG switch. The driver-side door panel includes controls for all four power windows, a chrome-finished door opener, and electric adjustment and folding for the ORVMs. There are also bottle holders and speakers in the doors.

The seats are made of fabric with a unique tread design and offer height adjustment and recline options. The driver’s area includes a fuel lid opener, a bonnet opener, and manual transmission pedals.

The car features a fully digital instrument cluster that displays various check lights and information, including separate bars for CNG and petrol fuel levels. It also shows trip A, trip B, and odometer readings. The steering wheel has a Tata logo and controls for infotainment and calls. It is tilt-adjustable, allowing drivers to set it to their comfort. Controls for wipers and headlamps are also conveniently placed.

Advanced Infotainment and Climate Control

The center console features a hazard light switch and AC vents with a black piano finish and chrome inserts. A 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, powered by Harman, supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. It has a responsive touch interface and good sound output. The reverse parking camera also provides good quality visuals.

Below the infotainment system, you’ll find controls for fog lamps, lock/unlock buttons, and the crucial CNG switch, which allows easy conversion between CNG and petrol modes. The Tiago i-CNG XZ+ comes with a fully automatic climate control system. A 12V charging outlet and a USB port are provided, along with storage space. The car features a five-speed manual transmission; an AMT option is not available with the CNG variant. It also includes glass holders and a handbrake.

Rear Seating and Storage

The rear of the car features a dual-tone dashboard. While there are no rear AC vents, a white roof light provides illumination. Grab handles and door panels are present, along with a rear parcel tray for small items. The rear headrests are fixed. Leg space and thigh support are adequate, ensuring a comfortable seating experience for rear passengers.

i-CNG Technology and Fuel Efficiency

The Tiago i-CNG XZ+ comes with advanced i-CNG technology, offering several smart features. This includes an auto-cut switch in case of fire and the ability to start the car directly in CNG mode. The car has a 35-liter petrol fuel tank capacity and can hold 7-8 kg of CNG.

Under the hood, it features a 1.2L Revotron Petrol Engine.

  • CNG Variant: Produces 73 PS of power and 95 Nm of torque, offering a mileage of approximately 26.4 km/kg.
  • Petrol Variant: Delivers 86 PS of power and 113 Nm of torque, with a mileage of around 21-22 kmpl.

Rear Profile and Boot Space

The rear profile of the Tiago i-CNG XZ+ includes a high mount stop lamp, a defogger, and stickers for “Vocal for Local” and CNG. It has a rear wiper, a Tata logo, Tiago badging, and an i-CNG badge. A reverse parking camera and chrome inserts enhance its looks. The tail lamps are normal backlights with halogen bulbs. It is important to note that the top model does not include reverse parking sensors.

Due to the integrated CNG tank, the boot space is significantly reduced. While the car originally offers 242 liters of boot space, the CNG tank occupies most of this area, leaving very little storage. The spare wheel is also located here and requires folding the rear seats to access it. For those needing more boot space, other models might be a better choice.

Safety Features and Pricing

Safety is a key highlight of the Tiago i-CNG XZ+. It has received a 4-star safety rating from Global NCAP. Standard safety features include ABS with EBD, dual airbags, central locking, corner stability control, a speed alert system, seat belt warning, and a reverse parking camera. The car comes with a warranty of 2 years or 75,000 km.

In terms of pricing:

  • The base petrol variant starts at ₹6,12,000 (ex-showroom).

  • The top model petrol variant is around ₹6,65,000 (ex-showroom) and ₹7,97,000 (on-road).

The Tiago i-CNG XZ+ offers a strong package of safety, features, and efficiency in the hatchback segment.
