2024 Mahindra Scorpio-N Z2 Base Model: Price, Features, and Value Review

Mahindra Scorpio N Base Model: A Detailed Look at Features, Space, and Value

The Mahindra Scorpio N is a prominent SUV known for its muscular design, advanced features, and comfortable 7-seater capacity. This article provides an in-depth look at its base model, highlighting what it offers in terms of design, interior comfort, performance, and safety.

This robust vehicle is available in five appealing color options: Black, White, Red, Blue, and Green.

Striking Exterior Design

The exterior of the Mahindra Scorpio N base model has a strong road presence. At the front, you’ll notice a black lower grille, giving it a sturdy look. It comes with a dual wiper and washer setup. Owners might need to install fog lamps later.

From the side, the SUV features 17-inch steel rims. The front wheels are equipped with disc brakes, and the car comes with Apollo tires (size 245/65 R17). Wheel covers can be added later to enhance the look. The side profile also includes black cladding, and the ORVMs (Outside Rear View Mirrors) are manually adjustable and foldable in a matte black finish. All door handles are also in matte black, and there is no chrome garnish on this variant.

The rear profile includes a high-mounted stop lamp and a shark fin antenna. This specific variant does not include a rear wiper or defogger. The fuel filler cap for diesel is located at the back, supporting a 57-liter fuel capacity, and it requires AdBlue.

It is important to note that the provided key for this base model is a dummy key, meaning it does not offer remote central locking. However, this feature can be added later.

Comfortable and Feature-Rich Interior

Stepping inside the Mahindra Scorpio N base model, you’ll find a dual-tone dashboard that surprisingly doesn’t feel like a basic model. It features an 8 to 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system that supports Bluetooth, USB, and Aux connectivity. While it lacks a camera, it does have reverse parking sensors, which emit a beep sound.

The steering wheel, featuring the Mahindra logo, includes controls for the infotainment system on the right side. It is also tilt-adjustable for driver convenience. The instrument cluster is analog, with a speedometer (marked up to 220 kmph) and a tachometer. A Multi-Information Display (MID) in the center shows useful information like trip details and range.

The air conditioning system is manual, with clear controls. All seats are upholstered in fabric, offering a comfortable feel. The second row has two adjustable headrests, while the third row has one fixed headrest. The seats also offer a recline option. All four power windows are available in this base variant.

The door trims are dual-tone, featuring matte black door handles and black finish door openers. Each door has space for a bottle and speaker placement. Inside, you’ll find white LED roof lights both front and rear, an armrest with storage space, two glass holders, and a dedicated area for placing a phone. The car comes with a six-speed manual transmission. The driver’s side includes ABC pedals, a dead pedal, a lever for opening the bonnet, an ideal start/stop button, and a headlamp switch.

Spacious Seating and Flexible Boot

The Scorpio N is designed to offer good space for passengers. The second row provides ample legroom and kneeroom, making it comfortable even for taller adults. It also features rear AC vents and a Type-C USB port for convenience.

Access to the third row is achieved by folding the second-row seat using a double-fold mechanism. The third-row seating is suitable for children, offering limited legroom.

The boot door opens like an older Scorpio model, swinging to the side. With the third-row seats in use, the boot space is approximately 80 liters, enough for small items. A toolkit, including a jack and spanner, is visibly stored in this area. If more space is needed, folding down the third-row seats expands the boot capacity to about 460 liters, ideal for carrying luggage for five to six people.

Engine Options and Performance

The Mahindra Scorpio N offers both diesel and petrol engine options.

The diesel variant is powered by a 2.2-liter, four-cylinder mHawk diesel engine. This engine delivers 130 BHP of power and 300 Nm of torque, providing an estimated mileage of around 15 kmpl.

For those preferring petrol, a 2.0-liter petrol engine option is available, generating 200 BHP of power and 310 Nm of torque.

Both engine options are paired with a six-speed manual transmission.

Essential Safety Features

Safety is a priority in the Mahindra Scorpio N, even in its base model. It includes features like:

  • Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD)
  • Dual airbags (for driver and co-driver)
  • Reverse parking sensors
  • Speed alert system
  • Seat belt warning
  • Engine immobilizer

Pricing and Warranty

The pricing for the Mahindra Scorpio N base model varies between the diesel and petrol options:

  • Diesel Base Model:
    • Ex-showroom Price: ₹13.99 Lakh
    • On-road Price: ₹16.71 Lakh
  • Petrol Base Model:
    • Ex-showroom Price: ₹13.60 Lakh

There is roughly an ₹80,000 difference between the petrol and diesel base models.

The car comes with a warranty of 3 years or 1 lakh kilometers, which can be extended further.

Is the Base Model Right for You?

The base model of the Mahindra Scorpio N offers a strong package with its muscular design, comfortable 7-seater cabin, and essential features like a touchscreen infotainment system and power windows. While some cosmetic enhancements like wheel covers and practical upgrades like remote central locking might be desired, this variant provides a solid foundation. Its range of safety features and competitive pricing make it an attractive option for those looking for a capable and spacious SUV.
