Hyundai Exter: Your Guide to India’s Feature-Rich Micro SUV

The Hyundai Exter has made a significant impact in the micro SUV segment since its launch. It offers excellent standard features and an appealing price range, setting a new benchmark in the market.

Affordable Pricing for a Feature-Loaded Package The Hyundai Exter starts at around 6 lakh (ex-showroom), making it an accessible micro SUV at a price point often associated with hatchbacks. The top model can reach approximately 12 lakh (on-road in Lucknow).

Engine and Transmission Options The car provides buyers with both petrol and CNG engine options. For convenience, it also offers choices between manual and automatic transmissions.

Striking Exterior Design From the front, the Hyundai Exter showcases a prominent Hyundai logo, with a large “Exter” badge in a satin finish positioned below. It features a split headlamp design with lower DRLs and automatic projector headlamps. The front grille is finished in glossy black. A large skid plate adds to the car’s muscular and robust front appearance. The car boasts a ground clearance of 185 mm and is equipped with dual wipers.

Moving to the side, the car features an electric sunroof and glossy black roof rails. The outside rearview mirrors (ORVMs) are dual-tone, body-colored, with integrated indicators, and are electrically adjustable and foldable. Black cladding along the sides enhances its SUV styling. The car measures 3815 mm in length, 1710 mm in width, and 1631 mm in height. Its wheelbase is 2450 mm. Body-colored door handles complete the side profile. Color options include white, khaki (the launch color), red, white, grey, and starry night blue, available in both single-tone and dual-tone finishes.

The rear profile features the Hyundai logo with a satin finish. A reverse parking camera is positioned low. The car has basic LED taillamps with halogen reverse light indicators. The rear bumper includes two parking sensors and a large, grey-finished skid plate.

Spacious and Feature-Rich Interior The second row doors feature a black finish, with power window controls and door openers. The car is fitted with comfortable fabric seats. The dashboard has a dual-tone design, consistent with other Hyundai models. Rear AC vents are provided, along with a 12V charging outlet. The interior offers average legroom and headroom, complemented by decent thigh support. Both rear headrests are adjustable. A parcel tray and a yellow roof light are also present in the rear cabin.

For the driver, the door trim is black and includes controls for all four power windows, central locking, and electric adjustment and folding of the outside mirrors. The dual-tone dashboard continues into the front. The driver’s seat offers height adjustment. The car is equipped with a dead pedal and an engine start-stop button. The leather-wrapped steering wheel, with silver accents, is tilt-adjustable and houses controls for cruise control, the digital instrument cluster, and telephone functions. The fully digital instrument cluster displays fuel level, temperature, trip information, average mileage, range, and speed. The smart key allows for remote unlocking, locking, and boot release.

The center console features an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto, USB connectivity, four speakers, and tweeters. It also displays the feed from the reverse parking camera. Below the screen, there is a fully automatic climate control system. Wireless charging is available, alongside two USB ports (one Type-C, one Type-A). The car comes with a 5-speed manual gearbox, a handbrake, and two cup holders. A manual adjustable IRVM is present, and an electric sunroof operates with a single touch. The driver’s sun visor includes a ticket holder, while the passenger’s sun visor has a vanity mirror. A cooled glovebox provides extra storage.

Advanced Safety Features The Hyundai Exter prioritizes safety with six airbags as a standard feature. Other safety systems include ABS (Anti-lock Braking System), EBD (Electronic Brakeforce Distribution), Traction Control, and Electronic Stability Control. It also features TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System) and child locks.

Practicality and Storage The car offers a practical 300 liters of boot space, along with a boot light. Opting for the CNG variant will lead to a reduction in available boot space. The spare wheel is 14-inch, which is one inch smaller than the other wheels. A parcel tray is also provided in the boot. The fuel tank capacity is 37 liters.

Engine Performance and Mileage The Hyundai Exter is powered by a 1.2-liter, 4-cylinder Kappa petrol engine, a reliable engine found in other Hyundai models. This petrol engine generates 82 BHP of power and 114 Nm of torque, delivering a mileage of approximately 18-19 kmpl. The CNG version produces 68 BHP of power and 95 Nm of torque, offering a mileage of around 27 kmpl.

Warranty and Competition The car comes with a standard warranty of 3 years or 1 lakh kilometers. This warranty can be extended to 5 years for an additional charge. The Hyundai Exter directly competes in its micro SUV segment.
