Tata Punch Pure Variant: Features, Pricing, and Performance

The new Tata Punch is now available, and this article provides a detailed look at its second base model, the Tata Punch Pure. While the base model already includes key features like LED headlamps, six airbags, and remote central locking, the Pure variant adds more to the package. Let’s explore what this muscular micro-SUV offers.

Pricing Details

The base model of the Tata Punch starts at an Ex-showroom price of Rs 5,99,000. Moving up to the Pure variant requires an additional investment of Rs 90,000, setting its Ex-showroom price at Rs 6,49,000. For example, the on-road price for the Pure variant in Lucknow is Rs 7,47,000. During January, a rough discount of Rs 15,000 might be available, bringing the on-road price down to Rs 7,32,000.

For financing, a down payment of Rs 2,32,000 could finance Rs 5 lakh. The EMI options for this amount are:

  • 3-year EMI: Rs 15,923
  • 5-year EMI: Rs 10,000
  • 7-year EMI: Rs 8,000

Muscular Front Design

The front of the Tata Punch Pure looks very robust and muscular. It features a large Tata logo prominently in the center. The grille is completely new, now showcasing a glossy treatment instead of the chrome seen in earlier models. Parking lights are included in this Pure variant. However, it does not offer DRLs (Daytime Running Lights). The indicators are integrated into the headlight setup. LED headlamps are a standard feature from the base model onwards. The lower grille comes in black, and a muscular grey skid plate is also standard from the base model. The overall front design appears more muscular than its predecessor. A housing for a 360-degree camera is present, indicating its availability in top models or as an accessory.

Practical Side Profile

The ground clearance of the Tata Punch has been increased from 187mm to a generous 193mm, contributing to its muscular stance. It comes with dual wipers and washers. The roof is plain, but dual-tone options and a sunroof are available in higher variants. Being the second base model, the Pure variant does not include wheel covers. The ORVMs (Outside Rear View Mirrors) and door handles are finished in matte black. The turn indicators are neatly placed on the ORVMs, which can be folded manually but are electrically adjustable from inside the cabin. The B-pillars are also matte black. A convenient auto-lock feature engages when the key is moved away from the car. The car runs on 15-inch steel wheels with a tire profile of 185/60 R15. Braking is handled by disc brakes at the front and drum brakes at the rear. Black body cladding is present along the sides, thin at the top and wider at the bottom. The car comes with a warranty of 3 years or 100,000 km, which can be extended. It includes a flip remote central locking key and a normal manual physical key.

Connected Rear Lighting

The rear of the Tata Punch Pure features connected LED backlights, though only a part of the light strip illuminates in this variant. The indicators are integrated into the rear light design. A large Tata logo is prominently displayed in the center. The car’s length has increased by 49mm, from 3827mm to 3876mm, primarily due to these new connected backlights. The ‘Punch’ badging is also visible. A defogger is provided from this second base model. It also features a high-mount stop lamp and sporty matte black pads at the top. Reflectors are present on both sides. The number plate is illuminated by white LED lights. For parking assistance, two ultrasonic parking sensors are included. A silver-finished skid plate is found at the bottom, and the exhaust pipe is located on the right side.

Spacious and Functional Interior

The interior features black door trims with a subtle grey shade. All four power window controls are located on the driver’s door, along with a newly added lock/unlock button. Door openers are standard. Speakers are installed in the doors, but an audio system is not included and must be fitted separately (an Android touchscreen system could cost around Rs 27,000). The doors offer space for bottles and an umbrella holder. The fabric seats have updated cushioning and a premium batch design. A key highlight is that all doors open 90 degrees, ensuring very easy entry and exit.

The dashboard, in this Pure variant, does not have an audio system. The AC knobs have a basic appearance. Six airbags are a standard safety feature from the base model. The rear seats feature two fixed headrests and three-point seatbelts. A parcel tray is not included but can be added as an accessory. Rear AC vents are a new and welcome addition for rear passengers in the Pure variant. However, there are no USB ports or charging outlets for rear passengers. Legroom, knee room, and thigh support remain comfortable. The headroom is also spacious. The front armrest is slideable and includes storage inside. The glove box is of a normal size and features a tablet holder on top with a textured pattern. ISOFIX child seat mounts are available for securing child safety seats. A manual IRVM (Inside Rear View Mirror) and a white LED roof light are present. A notification for the co-driver airbag activation/deactivation is displayed, and a microphone is included. The sun visor on the passenger side has a ticket holder.

Digital Driver Information

The steering wheel is new, featuring a two-spoke design with an illuminated logo. It includes steering-mounted controls that become functional if an audio system is installed later. The steering wheel is tilt-adjustable for driver comfort. Headlamps and wipers are manually operated. The instrument cluster is fully digital, displaying various check lights, a speedometer, and an odometer. It provides information such as trip details (e.g., 40 km driven), mileage (17.8 kmpl, expected 18-19 kmpl), range, outside temperature, and TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System). Two drive modes are available, with controls located near the steering wheel. A switch for the rear defogger, along with buttons for locking/unlocking the doors and idle start/stop, are also present. The center console includes a Type-C USB port (15W) and a 12V charging outlet, along with additional storage space.

Boot Space and Storage

The Tata Punch Pure offers a boot space of 366 liters. The rear seats fold as a single unit to expand cargo capacity. A hook with a 1kg capacity is provided for hanging items. A boot light is not present. Importantly, a spare wheel is not included in the lower variants, which is a significant change. Instead, a tool kit is provided, containing a tire inflator, tow hook, jack, and spanner for managing flat tires. The fuel tank capacity for the petrol variant is 37 liters. A CNG variant option is also available, with its nozzle located conveniently near the fuel cap.

Engine Specifications and Performance

The Pure variant of the Tata Punch is powered by a 1.2-liter, three-cylinder Revotron petrol engine, which is a non-turbo unit. This engine produces 85 BHP of power and 115 Nm of torque. It is expected to deliver a mileage of 18 to 19 kmpl, depending on driving style. Higher variants, such as the Accomplished Plus, offer a more powerful 1.2-liter turbo petrol engine, similar to the one found in the Nexon. This turbo petrol engine generates 118 BHP and 170 Nm of torque. CNG variants will have slightly lower power figures. The engine bay includes the battery compartment and ABS/EBD unit. Washer fluid can be filled easily, and proper insulation is provided under the hood. The Tata Punch boasts a five-star safety rating, which has been demonstrated in rigorous crash tests.
