2023 Mahindra Thar RWD Launched at Rs 10.99 Lakh: Best Value 4×2 SUV

Mahindra Thar Rear Wheel Drive: An Accessible Adventure SUV

The Mahindra Thar is known for its adventure capabilities. Now, there is a new Rear Wheel Drive (RWD) 4×2 variant available. This version is a great choice for those who love the Thar’s looks but have a budget lower than the typical ₹17 to ₹18 lakh range of the 4×4 model.

Thar RWD Price and Variants

The new Mahindra Thar RWD range starts at an attractive price of ₹9.99 lakh. The top diesel variant can be found around ₹13 lakh on-road. If you prefer petrol with an automatic transmission, it costs approximately ₹15 lakh on-road.

The Thar RWD comes in two main variants: AX Optional and LX, which is the top model. The LX Diesel variant is a popular choice, and a petrol automatic option is also available.

Engine Options and Performance

The biggest change in the Thar RWD is its engine. This Rear Wheel Drive model offers a 1.5-liter diesel engine. This diesel engine provides 117 horsepower and 300 Nm of torque, offering good mileage of about 17 to 18 kmpl.

For those who prefer petrol, there is a 2.0-liter mStallion petrol engine. This engine delivers 150 horsepower and 300 Nm of torque, with a mileage of around 12 kmpl. The petrol variant comes only with an automatic transmission in the 4×2 model.

Exterior Design: Classic Thar Looks

The Mahindra Thar RWD keeps the same bold and muscular exterior design. There are no changes to the front profile, featuring the classic Mahindra badging and a large grille. Halogen headlights are standard, with DRLs (Daytime Running Lights) and indicators placed above them. The bumper includes halogen fog lamps and a sturdy gray finish with “Thar” branding. An engine guard is also present for protection.

The Thar RWD has an excellent ground clearance of 226 mm, making it suitable for various terrains. It is available as a hardtop variant. The side profile maintains the strong road presence of the Thar, perfect for those who enjoy the looks without needing off-road features.

Comfortable Interior and Features

Inside, the Thar RWD features a black dashboard layout. A key difference from the 4×4 model is the absence of the 4×4 gear lever. The interior retains many familiar features. It includes remote central locking and black door panels. The car comes with a 6-speed manual gearbox.

The instrument cluster features Thar branding and a Multi-Information Display (MID) screen. This screen shows important information like fuel level, temperature, mileage, range, and average fuel consumption. It also includes a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS). The steering wheel has a new logo, cruise control buttons, and controls for infotainment and phone calls.

The center console houses the infotainment screen, controls for manual air conditioning, a hazard light switch, traction control, and hill descent control buttons. It also provides USB, AUX, and a 12V charging outlet. Power window controls are located on the center console. Other interior storage includes two glass holders, a handbrake, and a glovebox. The rear seats can be folded to create approximately 600 liters of boot space when needed.

Thar RWD Dimensions and Wheels

The dimensions of the Thar RWD are identical to the previous Thar models: 3985 mm in length, 1855 mm in width, and 1844 mm in height.

For braking, the Thar RWD features disc brakes at the front and drum brakes at the rear. It comes with 18-inch alloy wheels fitted with MRF tires. On the exterior, there will be no 4×4 badging, clearly indicating it is the Rear Wheel Drive model.

Safety Features for Peace of Mind

The Mahindra Thar RWD is equipped with several safety features. These include ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) with EBD (Electronic Brakeforce Distribution), dual airbags, and a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS). Other safety aspects include brake assist, seat belt reminders, traction control, ESP (Electronic Stability Program), and hill hold control. For easier parking, it also has reverse parking sensors.

Mahindra Thar RWD: Your Budget-Friendly Adventure

The Thar RWD is a great option for those wanting to experience the Thar lifestyle at a more affordable price. It offers the same iconic looks and many features of its 4×4 counterpart, but with a significant price reduction. The RWD Thar is available in several colors, including new options like White and a Yellowish-Brown (Bronze), alongside classic Black, Red, Gray, and Rocky Beige. This makes the adventure-ready Mahindra Thar more accessible than ever.
