Introducing the New Mahindra EV
This new electric vehicle is a strong contender, offering a significant alternative to existing models like the Nexon. Mahindra claims an impressive range of approximately 450 kilometers on a single charge. The ex-showroom price starts from ₹15.99 lakh and goes up to ₹18.99 lakh. The top variant’s on-road price can reach around ₹20 lakh, partly due to its dual-tone finish. Two main variants are available for this electric SUV.
Bold Exterior Design
The electric SUV boasts a completely new front profile with a broad and muscular appearance. It features a new Mahindra logo with a copper finish, integrated into an aero-type design. The headlamp setup includes projector LEDs, with a halogen unit for high beams. Side indicators and DRLs (Daytime Running Lights) come with attractive copper fins. The DRLs are continuous, extending across the front. While fog lamps are not included as standard, they can be added as an accessory. The lower grill is finished in black, and the vehicle offers a dual-tone exterior option. The overall dimensions show increased length and broader looks compared to its predecessor.
Dynamic Side View and Charging
From the side, the electric SUV showcases 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels and is equipped with four disc brakes for superior stopping power. The new Mahindra logo, with its distinct copper finish, is prominently displayed. Black cladding runs along the side. A notable feature is the conveniently placed charging port at the center of the vehicle, offering both fast and regular charging options. Fast charging can power up the battery by 50% in approximately one hour, while a regular charge takes about five hours for a full charge. The ORVMs (Outside Rear View Mirrors) are finished in glossy black, include integrated indicators, and feature an auto-fold function. The A-pillar is also glossy black, and the roof rail has a copper finish. An electric sunroof adds to the vehicle’s appeal.
Muscular Rear Design
The rear profile of this electric SUV features significant changes, appearing even more muscular than the front. It exudes a broad stance, comparable to larger SUV segments. The vehicle has an increased length of 4.2 meters, a width of 1821mm, and a height of 1636mm, offering generous dimensions. The rear also sports the new copper-finished Mahindra logo and a reverse parking camera. The XUV400 badging is clearly visible. Large LED taillights enhance the rear look, especially when illuminated. Other rear features include a rear wiper, defogger, a high-mount stop lamp, an integrated spoiler, and a power antenna. The lower bumper incorporates reflectors on both sides.
Practical Boot Space and Charging
The boot space has been notably improved, increasing from 257 liters to over 300 liters, making it more practical for luggage. The rear seats offer a 60:40 split fold function, allowing for flexible cargo arrangements. Adjustable headrests are provided for rear passengers. The vehicle includes a charging gun/cable for home charging, which takes about 5.5 hours for a full charge. Using a fast charger, the battery can be fully charged from 0% to 100% in approximately 50 minutes. A 16-inch spare wheel and a tool kit are also included in the boot.
Driver-Focused Cabin
The interior of the electric SUV features an all-black dashboard and black leather seats, offering a premium feel. The driver’s seat includes height adjustment and recline options. The driver’s door panel is entirely black, with controls for all four power windows, side lock, and ORVM adjustments including an auto-fold feature. Tweeters and speakers are integrated into the doors, along with bottle holders and subtle lighting. The cabin incorporates blue accents, a nod to its electric nature. The new digital instrument cluster provides comprehensive information, including charge level (e.g., 74% charged with 200 km range shown), speed (up to 80 km/h), and boost information.
Advanced Controls and Infotainment
The steering wheel, wrapped in leather, features the new copper-finished Mahindra logo. It hosts controls for infotainment, telephony, and voice commands. Rain-sensing wipers and automatic headlamps add to driving convenience. The center console includes an infotainment system that displays the vehicle’s charge status. A reverse parking camera display is also integrated. Black-finished AC vents, a hazard light switch, and trip switches are present. Drive modes can be selected via a switch. The fully automatic climate control system uses blue lights, signaling its EV identity. A copper-finished rotary dial acts as the drive selector, offering Reverse, Neutral, and Drive options, reminiscent of luxury cars. Other features include USB and AUX ports, a 12V charging outlet, space for a phone, two cup holders, a handbrake, and an armrest with storage.
Top-Tier Safety
Safety is a priority in this electric SUV. While the base variants come with two airbags, the top variants are equipped with six airbags, strategically placed across the cabin (dashboard, pillars). The XUV300, on which this EV is based, has received a 5-star safety rating, and this electric SUV is expected to offer similarly strong safety credentials. Additional safety features include an adjustable IRVM (Inside Rear View Mirror), a sunglass holder, cabin lights, and an electric sunroof. The sun visor includes a mirror with illumination, and grab handles are provided for convenience.
Comfortable Rear Seating
The rear cabin is designed for passenger comfort, offering good legroom and thigh support. Magazine holders are provided for storage. While a parcel tray is not standard, it can be added. All three rear headrests are adjustable, and a central armrest with cup holders enhances comfort. Child locks are integrated into the rear doors, ensuring safety for young passengers.
Impressive Performance and Range
Powering this electric SUV is a 39.4 kWh battery, which delivers 147 horsepower and 310 Nm of torque. Mahindra claims a range of 456 kilometers on a full charge. In practical driving conditions, the actual range can exceed 300 kilometers, depending on driving style and conditions.
