Experience the Tata Nexon: A 5-Star Rated SUV for Smart Buyers

The Tata Nexon stands out as a muscular and popular compact SUV. Today, we highlight a perfect value-for-money option: the Tata Nexon Smart Plus S CNG variant. This variant offers excellent features and impressive mileage, making it a smart choice for many.

New Pricing and Great Savings

Good news for buyers! After the new GST adjustments, you can save a significant amount on the Tata Nexon. On the base model, prices have decreased from ₹8 lakh to ₹7,31,000 (ex-showroom), a saving of about ₹70,000. For the Smart Plus S variant, buyers can expect to save around ₹1 to ₹1.5 lakh.

The Tata Nexon Smart Plus S CNG variant is priced at ₹9,42,000 (ex-showroom) and ₹10,78,000 (on-road in Lucknow). If you opt for the Smart Plus S Petrol variant, it costs around ₹8.30 lakh (ex-showroom) and ₹9.50 lakh (on-road). The Smart Plus S Diesel variant is available for approximately ₹10.60 lakh (on-road).

For those considering finance, if the CNG variant is ₹10,78,000 on-road, a down payment of ₹5,78,000 leaves ₹5,00,000 to be financed. This would result in a 3-year EMI of ₹15,923 or a 5-year EMI of ₹10,000.

Bold Exterior Design and Features

The Tata Nexon boasts a strong and appealing exterior. The front features a Tata logo on a glossy black front grille, dual functional DRLs, and integrated indicators. LED headlamps are automatic, even from the base Smart series. The lower grille is finished in matt black, and there’s a tow option available. This muscular SUV also offers a ground clearance of 208 mm.

Moving to the side, the car has automatic range-sensing wipers and glossy black ORVMs that can be adjusted from inside, with integrated indicators. The door handles are in a matt black finish. It rides on 16-inch steel rims with pre-installed wheel covers. The tires are 195/60 R16 radial tires. The front gets disc brakes, while the rear has drum brakes. Black cladding runs along the sides, and both A and B pillars match the body color.

The rear profile is equally impressive. It features a central Tata logo, connected tail lights (with only a part illuminating), and an iCNG badge for the CNG variant. A high-mount stop lamp, power antenna, and roof rails complete the top section. Below, you’ll find a large ‘Nexon’ badge, reflectors, reverse lights, and two ultrasonic parking sensors on the bumper. The spare tire, a normal steel rim, is conveniently placed underneath the vehicle.

Comfortable and Tech-Rich Interior

Step inside the Tata Nexon Smart Plus S variant to find a comfortable and technologically advanced cabin. The all-black door trims include controls for all four power windows, a matt black door opener, speaker, bottle holder, and an umbrella holder in the front doors.

For convenience, the steering wheel is tilt-adjustable and includes controls for the MID and telephony. Both headlamps and wipers are automatic, a feature available from the base Smart series. The digital cluster provides information like RPM, speed, fuel levels, CNG bars, audio, trip details, mileage, and range. Other features include manual AC controls, a hazard light switch, a CNG to Petrol conversion switch, a boot unlock button, a 12V charging outlet, and a Type-A USB port. The car comes with a 6-speed manual transmission and a manual handbrake. Storage options include two cup holders and a deep glove box with space for documents. The IRVM is manually adjustable, and there’s a white LED roof light. A highlight is the electric sunroof, perfect for enjoying the outside view when the car is stationary. The driver’s sun visor has a ticket holder, while the passenger’s side has a vanity mirror.

The car key is a flip-style remote central locking key with buttons for lock, unlock, and follow-me lights, along with a Tata logo. A separate manual physical key is also provided.

Powerful Engine Options and Performance

The Tata Nexon stands out for offering a wide range of engine options: Petrol, Diesel, CNG, and EV, a unique offering in its segment.

The Smart Plus S CNG variant is powered by a 1.2L 3-cylinder Revotron Petrol Engine with a turbocharger, a first-in-segment combination with CNG. This engine produces 99 BHP of power and 170 Nm of torque, delivering an impressive mileage of approximately 26 km/kg in CNG mode. When running on petrol, the power increases to 118 BHP, with the same 170 Nm of torque, offering about 18-19 kmpl.

For those preferring diesel, a 1.5L 4-cylinder Revotorq Diesel engine is available, which generates 113-114 BHP of power and a robust 260 Nm of torque, providing a mileage of 20-21 kmpl. The engine bay includes an ABS EBD unit, coolant reservoir, battery compartment, and proper insulation.

Fuel and Boot Capacity

The petrol tank capacity is 44 liters. The CNG capacity ranges from 8 to 10 kg, depending on the pressure at the CNG pump.

The boot space, without the CNG tanks, is a generous 382 liters. With the twin CNG cylinders (30 kg each) installed and covered, you still get a practical boot space of approximately 300 liters. The boot also includes a toolkit and hooks for securing items. While a parcel tray is not standard, it can be added later. The rear seats are single-piece foldable, offering flexibility for carrying larger items.

Dimensions and Competitors

The Tata Nexon has a length of 3995 mm, a width of 1804 mm, and a height of 1620 mm. The wheelbase measures 2498 mm.

In the competitive compact SUV segment, the Tata Nexon faces rivals such as the Maruti Brezza, Mahindra 3XO, Hyundai Venue, and Kia Sonet. However, the Nexon distinguishes itself with its 5-star build quality and the availability of all engine options (petrol, diesel, CNG, EV), giving it a significant edge.

  • ABS with EBD
  • Six Airbags
