Discover the Tata Nexon Smart Plus: A Feature-Packed Compact SUV

The Tata Nexon is a leading choice in the compact SUV segment, known for its robust build, stylish design, and advanced features. We are here to explore the Smart Plus variant, which stands out as a five-star rated, muscular, and feature-loaded SUV. This variant is positioned just above the entry-level ‘Smart’ model, offering a compelling package for buyers.

Tata Nexon Pricing and Variants

The base ‘Smart’ model of the Tata Nexon starts from ₹8 Lakh (ex-showroom). The Smart Plus variant, which we are detailing, is priced at ₹8,90,000 (ex-showroom). This means you pay approximately ₹90,000 more than the base model for the added features. The on-road price difference typically amounts to about ₹1 Lakh. For instance, the Tata Nexon Smart Plus petrol variant is estimated to be around ₹10,07,000 on-road in certain cities. If you opt for the Smart Plus diesel, expect an additional cost of about ₹1,50,000 to ₹1,60,000.

Exterior Design and Features

The Tata Nexon Smart Plus boasts an impressive exterior. The front features the classic Tata logo set against a black finish front grille. Dual functional LED DRLs (Daytime Running Lights) and indicators are neatly integrated. The lower section includes a full LED headlamp setup. While the Smart Plus offers strong lighting, fog lamps are not included in this variant. The lower grille is finished in black, enhancing its rugged appeal.

Looking at the underbody, the front engine and suspension setup are visible. The Nexon provides a substantial ground clearance of 208 mm, which is ideal for an SUV. The car also comes with a dual wiper and washer system for clear visibility.

From the side, the Tata Nexon presents a muscular stance. The ORVMs (Outside Rear View Mirrors) are finished in glossy black, not matte, and include integrated turn indicators. These ORVMs are electrically adjustable. The Smart Plus variant comes with 16-inch steel wheels, complemented by stylish wheel covers. The front wheels feature disc brakes, while the rear has drum brakes. The tyre profile is 195/60 R16 radial tyres. Black body cladding runs along the sides, adding to its SUV character. The A-pillar and B-pillar match the body color, while the door handles are finished in a matte black, giving a subtle hint of its base model positioning.

The Tata logo is centrally placed, along with the ‘Nexon’ branding. This variant does not include a reverse camera or a rear wiper and defogger. It does have a high mount stop lamp and a power antenna. The bumper is a dual-tone design and houses two ultrasonic parking sensors, reflectors, and reverse lights. The rear suspension setup and exhaust pipe are also visible from below.

Boot Space and Convenience

Accessing the boot is convenient; simply long-press the follow-me headlamp button on the key. The Tata Nexon Smart Plus offers a generous 382 liters of boot space. While a parcel tray is not included and would need to be added later, the rear seats are 100% foldable, providing flexibility for cargo. The boot also has hooks with a 3 kg capacity for hanging items. The spare wheel is a 16-inch normal steel rim, matching the size of the main wheels. The fuel filler cap is for petrol, with a fuel tank capacity of approximately 44 liters.

Inside the Tata Nexon Smart Plus, the cabin welcomes you with an all-black theme. The door trims feature power window controls, black door opener handles, speakers, and bottle holders. The seats are upholstered in fabric. Rear passengers will find ample legroom, knee room, and thigh support, though there are no dedicated AC vents for the rear in this variant. The roof light is a white LED unit. Safety is paramount with six airbags, and ISOFIX child seat mounts are also present. The headrests are adjustable for both front and rear passengers.

The driver’s door trim provides controls for all four power windows, the door opener, and ORVM adjustments. The driver’s seat offers a recline option. Below the dashboard, you’ll find the manual fuel lid opener, ABC pedals for the manual transmission, and the bonnet release lever.

Upon entering the Smart Plus variant, the dashboard view is modern and functional. The digital instrument cluster displays the speedometer, RPM meter, fuel gauge, temperature bars, trip information, drive modes, average mileage, range, and ODO meter. The two-spoke, flat-bottom steering wheel features an illuminated Tata logo, along with controls for telephony and infotainment. The steering wheel is tilt-adjustable for driver comfort.

The center console features a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system powered by Harman. This system offers connectivity options like Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, USB, AUX, Bluetooth, and FM radio. It provides sensor information for reverse parking but does not include a reverse camera. Below the screen are black AC vents and manual AC controls for fan speed, flow, and temperature. Other controls include a light switch and a button to unlock the boot. A 12V charging outlet and a Type-A USB port are also provided.

The Tata Nexon Smart Plus comes with a 5-speed manual transmission and offers three selectable drive modes: City, Eco, and Sport, allowing drivers to customize their experience. A handbrake and two glass holders are conveniently placed in the center console. The glove box is deep and also includes glass holders. A vanity mirror is available on the passenger side, and a ticket holder on the driver’s side.

For those preferring diesel, the 1.5-liter diesel engine option provides 113-114 BHP of power and 260 Nm of torque, offering an impressive claimed mileage of 20-21 kmpl. The engine bay also features essential components like the ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) with EBD (Electronic Brakeforce Distribution) unit and a battery compartment, along with proper insulation for noise reduction.

Safety Features and Warranty

Safety is a cornerstone of the Tata Nexon. The Smart Plus variant is equipped with a comprehensive suite of safety features, including ABS with EBD, six airbags as standard, reverse parking sensors, a speed alert system, seat belt warning, an engine immobilizer, and a crash sensor. Its 5-star safety rating further solidifies its position as a secure vehicle.

The Tata Nexon comes with a standard warranty of 3 years or 100,000 km, which can be extended for additional peace of mind.

Competition

The Tata Nexon faces strong competition in the compact SUV segment from popular models like the Hyundai Venue, Maruti Brezza, Mahindra XUV 3XO, and Kia Sonet. However, the Nexon distinguishes itself with its exceptional build quality, five-star safety rating, muscular aesthetics, and extensive list of features.

In summary, the Tata Nexon Smart Plus offers a compelling blend of safety, features, and performance, making it a strong contender in the compact SUV market.
