Hyundai Exter Micro SUV: Features, Performance & Safety

The Hyundai Exter is a feature-loaded micro SUV offering a great driving experience. This car comes with many color options, including Starry Night Black. You can choose between petrol and CNG engine options, with both manual and automatic transmission choices available. The Hyundai Exter directly competes with the Tata Punch. While the Tata Punch is known for its build quality, the Exter stands out as a king in terms of features.

Striking Exterior Design

The front of the car has a very clean and clutter-free look. Below the bonnet is the front engine and suspension setup. The Exter offers a ground clearance of about 185 mm. It features a dual wiper and washer system at the front.

From the side, this car features 14-inch steel wheels with wheel covers. It also has front disc brakes. The tire profile is 165/70 R14. The second-base variant includes indicators on the fender. The ORVMs (Outside Rear View Mirrors) are dual-tone, electrically adjustable, and manually foldable. The front pillars are finished in a sleek matt black color. All four door handles match the body color of the car.

Robust Rear Profile

From the back, the car measures 10 mm in width and 1631 mm in height. It has a wheelbase of 2450 mm. The rear of the car is equipped with drum brakes. The last pillar is finished in glossy black. A power antenna is located on the roof. The car comes standard with six airbags. LED backlights are present, and the S variant gets LED trims. The rear suspension setup is finished in a grey color.

Smart and Practical Boot Space

The boot space houses a CNG tank, which has a liquid capacity of 60 liters and can hold 8-9 kg of gas. Even with the tank, there is space available for small bags and trolley bags. Without the tank, the car offers a boot space of 391 liters. A parcel tray is also provided above, where you can keep light items.

Convenient Fueling Options

For petrol, the car has a 37-liter fuel tank capacity. The blue filler point is for CNG, which can hold 8 to 9 kg of gas when the tank is empty.

Comfortable and Spacious Interior

The car’s doors are completely black. On the door, you will find power window controls, a door opener, a speaker, and a bottle holder. Inside, the second row features large rear AC vents. The dashboard has a dual-tone finish. The car offers good legroom and thigh support. There is a grab handle and a large parcel tray in the back. The headrests are adjustable, and three-point seatbelts are provided for safety. The seats have a good width and recline angle. Child locks are also included on the doors.

Driver-Focused Cockpit

On the driver’s side door, there are controls for all four power windows, central lock/unlock buttons, and ORVM adjustments. The seats are made of fabric and offer both height and recline adjustments. The fuel opener is located at the bottom. The car has pedals for manual transmission and a dead pedal. A lever for opening the bonnet is also present.

The steering wheel has controls for telephone and infotainment on the left side. It is a normal steering wheel with a silver finish and is fixed, meaning it does not offer adjustment. Headlamp and wiper controls are manual.

The car features a full digital instrument cluster. It displays information like refueling status, drive assist, cluster lights, door and convenience unit, and reset options. It also shows TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System) information, trip details, average mileage, and range. There are separate bars for petrol and CNG levels.

The dashboard gives a feeling of high seating. The car is equipped with an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system. This system supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, voice commands, and allows you to accept or reject calls. It offers applications for radio, media, phone, maps, and setup. Hazard light switch and manual AC controls are present below the screen, surrounded by black finish AC vents. Below these, you will find a 12V charging outlet, Type-A and Type-C USB ports, and some storage space. Higher variants might also include a wireless charging pad. The car comes with a 5-speed manual transmission, and an automatic option is also available (though not with the CNG variant). There are two glass holders and a handbrake. Six airbags are standard across all models, with branding visible on the seats. A small storage space and a normal glove box (without cooling) are also provided.

Engine Performance and Mileage

The car is powered by a 1.2-liter, 4-cylinder Kappa petrol engine. This engine produces 82 bhp of power and 113 Nm of torque, offering an approximate mileage of 19-20 kmpl.

For the CNG variant, the engine delivers 68 bhp of power and 95 Nm of torque. When running on CNG, it offers an impressive mileage of about 27 kmpl.
