Tata Punch Pure 2024 Base Model: Price, Features, and Review

Tata Punch Pure CNG: A Detailed Look at the Base Micro-SUV

The Tata Punch is a top-selling micro-SUV in its segment. We are looking at the Pure CNG variant, which is the base model. This car offers a blend of style and practicality, making it a popular choice.

Pricing and Variants

The Tata Punch Pure CNG starts at an ex-showroom price of ₹7,72,000. On-road, this can go up to around ₹8,82,000. Petrol variants start from ₹6,10,000 (ex-showroom) and go up to ₹7,00,000 on-road. CNG variants generally cost over ₹8,00,000 on-road.

The Tata Punch comes in four main variants: Pure, Adventure, Accomplished, and Creative. The Adventure variant offers a Rhythm pack, while the Accomplished variant includes a Dazzle pack.

Exterior Overview

Front Design

The front of the Tata Punch features a prominent Tata logo in the center. The front grill is finished in gloss black and has a tri-arrow design pattern, which also hides the horn. The lower grill is all black and continues the tri-arrow design.

The car has yellow parking lights. Higher variants come with DRLs. The indicators are placed at the top. The headlamps are halogen-based, but projector headlamps are available with the Accomplished Dazzle pack. Fog lamps are not included in this variant, but the housing is present for later installation. The car also features dual wipers and washers. The ground clearance is 187 millimeters, which is good for city and light off-road use.

Side Profile

On the side, you will see a CNG sticker, indicating it’s a bi-fuel vehicle running on both petrol and CNG. This variant comes with 15-inch black steel wheels; wheel covers can be added later. The front wheels have disc brakes, while the rear wheels have drum brakes. The tire profile is 185/70 R15. The car also has black body cladding.

The outside mirrors are finished in matt black, and they are manually adjustable and foldable. Interestingly, the indicators are placed on the mirrors, not on the fenders, which gives a cleaner look. The door handles are also in matt black. The A-pillar matches the body color, while the B-pillar is in a rough matt black finish. All doors open wide at 90 degrees for easy entry and exit. The rear windows operate manually.

The fuel filler cap is located at the rear, where you can fill petrol and CNG. The petrol tank capacity is 37 liters, and it can hold 8 to 9 kg of CNG when empty. A safety sensor on the fuel cap prevents the car from starting if the cap is open. The intelligent CNG system (iCNG) automatically cuts off gas supply in case of any leakage, enhancing safety.

Rear Design

The rear profile of the Tata Punch looks muscular. A large Tata logo is in the center, with “PUNCH” and “iCNG” badging below it. The backlights feature a tri-arrow design pattern and use regular halogen bulbs. A high-mount stop lamp and a power antenna are located at the top.

The bumper is completely black and includes reflectors and two reverse parking sensors. The reverse light and number plate light use white LEDs. The spare wheel, a normal steel rim, is placed under the car near the exhaust pipe. This base model does not come with a rear spoiler, wiper, or defogger.

Interior Features

Seating and Space

The interior features fabric seats. The front seats offer a recline option but no height adjustment. The rear seats have two fixed headrests and no armrest. While two people can sit comfortably in the rear, a third person can also adjust. The car has a wheelbase of 2450 millimeters, providing decent space.

The doors include bottle holders. Speakers are not pre-installed in this variant and can be added later. All doors open wide at 90 degrees.

Dashboard and Controls

The dashboard has a dual-tone finish. It looks simple because it lacks an audio system or touchscreen in this base variant, which can be installed as an accessory later. Black-finished AC vents and a hazard light switch are centrally placed. Manual AC controls are standard.

The steering wheel has a large Tata logo and is tilt-adjustable, but it does not have steering-mounted controls. The instrument cluster is fully digital, displaying information like speed, time, outside temperature, trip A and B, and separate bars for petrol and CNG fuel levels. A toggle switch allows you to cycle through various information displays.

For charging, there is a 12V charging outlet, but no USB port in this variant. The car comes with a 5-speed manual transmission; an automatic option is also available in other variants. A manual handbrake and two cup holders are present.

Safety and Convenience

Safety is a priority, with two airbags provided as standard in all Tata Punch variants, one for the driver and one for the front passenger. The glove box offers deep storage space and includes a tablet holder, along with a tri-arrow design pattern.

On the driver’s side, there are controls for the front power windows, while the rear windows are manual. A fuel lid opener and a bonnet release lever are also present. The car features a switch to convert between CNG and petrol modes. Child locks are available on the rear doors.

Engine, Performance, and Safety

Engine Specifications

The Tata Punch is powered by a 1.2-liter, 3-cylinder Revotron petrol engine.

  • Petrol Mode: It produces 86 PS of power and 113 Nm of torque.
  • CNG Mode: When running on CNG, it delivers 72 PS of power and 103 Nm of torque. Engine insulation is provided for reduced noise.

Mileage

On CNG, the Tata Punch offers a mileage of up to 26 km/kg, making it very fuel-efficient.

Safety Features

The Tata Punch has a 5-star safety rating. Key safety features include:

  • ABS with EBD
  • Two airbags (standard)
  • Two reverse parking sensors
  • Speed alert system
  • Seat belt warning
  • Engine immobilizer
  • Crash sensors

Dimensions and Colors

The dimensions of the Tata Punch are:

  • Length: 3827 mm
  • Width: 1742 mm
  • Height: 1615 mm

The Tata Punch is available in several attractive colors, including White, Grey, Tropical Mist, Orange, and Blue.

Boot Space

The standard petrol Punch offers 366 liters of boot space. In the iCNG variant, the twin CNG cylinders are cleverly placed under the boot floor, creating a flat loading area. This design still leaves a good amount of usable space, estimated around 200 liters, for luggage. There is also a hook with a 1 kg capacity for hanging small items. The rear seats are 100% foldable, allowing for more cargo space when needed.

Warranty

The Tata Punch comes with a warranty of 3 years or 1,00,000 kilometers, which can be extended for an additional cost.
