The Tata Punch is a popular micro SUV, and we’re exploring its top-of-the-line Creative variant, now available with a sunroof. Previously, the Creative variant did not offer a sunroof, but it now includes this feature along with other premium additions. This car holds a 5-star safety rating.
Key Features and Pricing Overview
The Tata Punch comes with a smart key that includes buttons for locking, unlocking, boot opening, and follow-me-home headlamps. It features the Tata logo on the back, and you get two such smart keys.
The price range for the Tata Punch starts from around 6 lakh (ex-showroom) for the base model, while the top model can go beyond 10 lakh (on-road in Lucknow).
For engine options, you can choose between petrol and CNG. The petrol variant also offers an automatic transmission option.
The Tata Punch is available in four variants: Pure (base model), Adventure, Accomplished, and Creative (top model).
Front Profile and Design
The front of the Tata Punch showcases a gloss black grille with the Tata logo. It features a tri-arrow design pattern, and the horn is placed behind the grille. The top model includes Daytime Running Lights (DRLs) and indicators.
Headlamps are projector-type and automatic, with projectors for the low beam and halogen bulbs for the high beam. Fog lamps are also provided in this model. The lower grille is completely blacked out and features the tri-arrow design.
When the follow-me-home headlamps are on, the DRLs illuminate. The Tata Punch offers a ground clearance of 187 millimeters. It also comes with rain-sensing wipers for added convenience.
Side View and Convenience
On the side, the Tata Punch Creative variant features stylish 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels. Wheel arch cladding runs continuously from front to back.
The ORVMs (Outside Rear View Mirrors) are in a gloss black finish and are auto-foldable, folding and unfolding when you lock or unlock the car. They also have integrated indicators. The A-pillar is blacked out.
Being a dual-tone variant, this car has a black roof, which gives it a sporty appearance. Roof rails are also included. At the rear, there is a shark fin antenna.
A notable feature is that all doors, both front and rear, open up to a 90-degree angle, making entry and exit very easy.
The fuel tank has a capacity of 37 liters for petrol. CNG variants also have their filler point in the same location.
The Tata Punch comes with a warranty of 3 years or 1 lakh kilometers, which can be extended. It is available in several color options, including White, Blue, Red, Tropical Mist, Grey, and Orange. The top model offers a dual-tone roof option, while other variants have a single-tone roof. For braking, the front wheels have disc brakes, and the rear wheels have drum brakes.
Rear Design and Boot Space
The rear profile of the Tata Punch features the Tata logo in the center, with a reverse parking camera positioned just below it. The “Punch” badging is also visible. The tail lights are LED, featuring a tri-arrow design pattern, and include indicators and reverse lights.
Higher up, you’ll find a rear wiper and defogger, both available in the top model. There’s also a high-mount stop lamp and the shark fin antenna. A “Vocal for Local” sticker emphasizes its Indian origin.
The bumper is completely blacked out and includes two reverse parking sensors. Reflectors on the sides also feature the tri-arrow design.
The Tata Punch offers a spacious boot capacity of 366 liters. It comes with a parcel tray, which can be removed if needed. Hooks are provided on both sides in the boot, each capable of holding 1 kg. A boot light is also included.
The spare tire is a 15-inch unit, which is one size smaller than the main 16-inch alloy wheels. A jack and other tools are stored here. The rear seats are 100% foldable, meaning there is no 60:40 split option.
For CNG variants, despite having twin cylinders, you still get approximately 200 liters of boot space.
Dimensions and Competition
The Tata Punch has a length of 3827 mm, a width of 1742 mm, and a height of 1615 mm. The wheelbase measures 2445 mm.
In its segment, the Tata Punch competes directly with the Hyundai Exter. The Punch is highlighted for its build quality, features, and looks. While the Exter might offer a few extra features like six airbags and rear AC vents, the Punch includes 16-inch alloys and fog lamps, which are not present in the Exter.
Second-Row Seating Experience
Entering the second row, you’ll see a “Celebration” badge, marking Tata’s achievement of selling 50 lakh cars in 25 years. The door trim features a dual-tone design, with power window controls, a door opener, a speaker, and a bottle holder.
The seats are covered in fabric. Child seat mounts are present, along with two seatbelt points for rear passengers. From the back, you get a good view of the dashboard, which includes a touchscreen and automatic climate control. Importantly, the Punch does not have rear AC vents in any variant.
Legroom in the second row is comfortable for a car of this size. There’s a handle with a hook on the roof, and a parcel tray behind the front seats. Both rear headrests are adjustable, and an armrest is also provided. The seats offer good width, comfortably accommodating two people, though a third might find shoulder space a bit tight. Child locks are included on the rear doors.
Driver’s Cabin and Dashboard Features
The driver’s side features a smart key with a request sensor on the door handle, allowing you to lock and unlock the car conveniently. Like other doors, the driver’s door also opens 90 degrees.
The door trim has controls for all four power windows and ORVM adjustments. There’s a door opener, a tweeter, a speaker, a bottle holder, and even an umbrella holder. The dashboard has a dual-tone design with stylish blue inserts.
The fabric seats offer both height adjustment and recline functions. Below, you’ll find the fuel lid opener, manual transmission pedals (ABC), and a dead pedal. The lever for opening the bonnet is also present here.
Other controls include the engine start/stop button, two drive modes, fog lamp controls, and buttons for locking and unlocking the car. There’s also an idle start/stop button.
Inside, the instrument cluster is fully digital. The steering wheel is leather-wrapped and equipped with numerous mounted controls. On the right side, you’ll find cruise control and MID (Multi-Information Display) controls. On the left side, there are controls for telephony, infotainment, and voice commands.
A notable feature is the voice command system for the sunroof. You can simply say “Show me stars” or “Open the sunroof” to operate it. Saying “Close the sunroof” will close it. This model also includes type-C charging ports and a front armrest.
The steering wheel, besides being leather-wrapped, has controls for automatic headlamps and rain-sensing wipers. The digital cluster displays an RPM meter, speedometer (marked up to 220 km/h), fuel gauge, mileage, trip information, and power/torque settings.
The dual-tone dashboard features a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and connected car features (IRA). The display for the automatic climate control is integrated into this touchscreen. You can adjust temperature and airflow from here.
The reverse parking camera display is also shown on the touchscreen. The car is equipped with four speakers and two tweeters. Other features include a hazard light switch and black AC vents with blue surrounds.
Below the infotainment system, you’ll find the fully automatic climate control. There’s a USB Type-A port, a USB Type-C port, and a 12V charging outlet. Storage space is also available.
The center console uses blue accents. The car has a handbrake and two cup holders. A USB charging outlet is conveniently placed near the cup holders. A new addition is the armrest between the front seats.
Safety features include dual airbags (one for the driver, one for the passenger) as a standard feature. The dashboard has a subtle tri-arrow design pattern. The glovebox is cooled, lit, and offers good storage space.
Above, there’s a manually adjustable IRVM (Inside Rear View Mirror) and a white roof light. A microphone is also present. The sunroof, as mentioned, can be operated by voice command or manually. The driver’s side sun visor has a ticket holder, and the passenger side sun visor includes a vanity mirror.
Standard safety features include ABS, EBD, dual airbags, reverse parking sensors, a reverse parking camera, a speed alert system, seat belt reminder, engine immobilizer, and a crash sensor.
