This new compact SUV arrives with a strong presence and a 5-star safety rating, ready to compete in its segment. Available in several variants including MX1 (base), MX2, MX2 Pro, MX3 Pro, AX5, AX7, and AX7 L, it offers a range of options to suit different needs.

Striking Exterior Design

The front of the SUV features bright white LED daytime running lights that also function as indicators. While fog lamps are not included in this variant, housing is provided to add them later as an accessory. A fully blacked-out lower grille and a grey finish ski plate give it a robust look, complemented by a large engine guard underneath.

The ground clearance has been enhanced to a significant 201 millimeters, improving its capability over varied terrains. Rain-sensing wipers are also part of its modern feature set.

From the side, the SUV showcases a powerful profile. It comes with a 3-year unlimited kilometer warranty, which can be extended. Large 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels are fitted with 16-inch radial tires. Black body cladding runs along the sides, adding to its rugged appeal. The body-colored outside rearview mirrors (ORVMs) are auto-foldable when the car is locked or unlocked, and they integrate turn indicators. The A-pillar is finished in gloss black, and large gloss black roof rails are also present. Upper variants will offer a panoramic sunroof.

At the rear, the SUV boasts connected taillights that look premium. A center spoiler and a power antenna are located on the roof. Large reflectors and two reverse parking sensors are integrated into the bumper, along with a reverse parking camera. A muscular ski plate finishes the rear design. This SUV is available in a variety of colors including Black, White, Red, Blue, and Yellow.

Thoughtful Interior and Comfort

Step inside, and you’ll find a dual-tone dashboard and a redesigned center console. A large touchscreen infotainment system and dual-zone climate control enhance the cabin’s modernity. Six airbags are standard across all variants, ensuring high safety. This variant features a regular-sized sunroof, while panoramic sunroofs are available in higher trims.

The fuel filler cap is for diesel, with a capacity of 42 liters. A separate filler for AdBlue is also provided. Diamond pattern detailing can be found in various places, including the roof rails and inside the cabin.

Practical Boot Space and Dimensions

The boot space has been improved. While it offers 295 liters when filled up to the parcel tray, it expands to 364 liters when packed to the roof. The rear seats feature a 60:40 split-folding ratio, which is standard even from the base variant, offering flexibility for cargo. Hooks are provided on both sides for convenience, and a parcel tray can be added as an accessory. The spare wheel is located underneath the boot floor.

In terms of dimensions, the SUV measures 3990 millimeters in length, 1821 millimeters in width, and 1647 millimeters in height. It boasts a wheelbase of 2600 millimeters, which is the largest in its segment, contributing to a spacious interior.

The doors are dual-tone, with door openers, speaker placements, power window controls, bottle holders, and magazine space. Fabric seats are provided in this variant, with height adjustment and recline options for the front seats; leather seats are available in higher variants.

Advanced Driver Features

The driver’s side includes a fuel opener, a lever to open the bonnet, an idle start/stop button, and headlamp leveling controls. The key is a smart flip key with buttons for lock, unlock, and boot unlock.

Upon ignition with the push engine start/stop button, the auto-foldable ORVMs automatically unfold. The fully digital instrument cluster, a significant upgrade from previous analog versions, displays fuel information, range (e.g., 2 km), and an impressive average mileage (e.g., 22 kmpl, with an expected real-world mileage of 20-25 kmpl). It also offers vehicle information, navigation, display layout options, settings, and alert history.

The steering wheel is leather-wrapped and tilt-adjustable, featuring controls for telephony, infotainment, and voice commands. Automatic headlamp controls and rain-sensing wiper controls are also integrated.

The 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The AC vents are finished in black with silver accents. Additional controls include hazard lights, traction control, steering mode selection, and an airbag on/off switch. Dual-zone automatic climate control is a segment-first feature in this car.

Charging options include a Type-A USB port, a wireless charging pad, and a 12-volt charging outlet. The SUV comes with a six-speed manual transmission, with an automatic option also available. The cabin also provides two glass holders and a manual handbrake, along with an armrest that offers storage space.

For rear passengers, there are dedicated AC vents (a new addition), a phone holder, a Type-C USB port, and a 12-volt charging outlet. The generous wheelbase ensures excellent legroom, knee room, and thigh support. Grab handles with hooks and airbags are also provided. The rear armrest includes two glass holders.

Engine Performance and Fuel Efficiency

This SUV offers both diesel and petrol engine options.

The 1.5-liter turbocharged diesel engine delivers 115 BHP of power and 300 Nm of torque. This diesel engine is expected to provide a mileage of around 22 kmpl.

For those preferring petrol, a 1.2-liter petrol engine is available, producing 110 BHP of power and 200 Nm of torque. This variant is expected to offer a mileage of approximately 19-20 kmpl.

Safety Features and Pricing

Safety is a priority with a comprehensive list of features including ABS with EBD, six airbags, reverse parking sensors, a reverse parking camera, traction control, TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System), ESP (Electronic Stability Program), seat belt reminders, engine immobilizer, crash sensors, automatic headlamps, and rain-sensing wipers.

For the X5 Diesel Manual variant, the ex-showroom price is ₹12,09,000, with an on-road price in Lucknow of ₹13,88,000. The X5 Petrol variant has an ex-showroom price of ₹10,69,000, and an on-road price in Lucknow of ₹12,29,000.
