Discover the New Mahindra Scorpio Classic: A Detailed Look
The Mahindra Scorpio Classic is a newly launched SUV, bringing significant changes while keeping the essence of the original Scorpio. Mahindra has updated the popular SUV and reintroduced it as the Scorpio Classic, rather than discontinuing the older model. This article explores the new features, design, and performance of this powerful vehicle.
Price and Available Models
The Mahindra Scorpio Classic is offered in two main variants: a base ‘S’ model and a top-end ‘S11’ model.
- The base S model starts at an ex-showroom price of ₹11.99 lakh. On-road, this model can cost around ₹14.38 lakh (prices may vary by state).
- The top-end S11 model has an ex-showroom price of ₹15 lakh, and its on-road price is approximately ₹18.34 lakh. Compared to previous versions, some features have been slightly adjusted.
Exterior Design and Features
The Scorpio Classic boasts a muscular and broad appearance, making a strong statement on the road.
Front Profile: The front features a new grille with chrome inserts, similar to the Mahindra Scorpio N. It includes projector headlamps and DRLs (Daytime Running Lights). LED lights are now offered, which were not available before. Fog lamps complete the impressive front look. The lower grille is black, and the air dam helps cool the engine. The ground clearance remains the same as the previous model. Roof rails and a roof antenna are also part of the design. The key is a flip key with the new Mahindra logo.
Side Profile: The Scorpio Classic comes with 17-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels. It has disc brakes at the front and drum brakes at the rear. Fender-mounted indicators and electric adjustable ORVMs (Outside Rear View Mirrors) are included. The door handles are body-colored. The fuel tank capacity is 60 liters.
Rear Profile: The rear design maintains a muscular look. It features “Scorpio Classic” badging (previously just “Scorpio”) and “S11” badging for the top model. The taillights are now larger than before and carry Scorpio branding. A “Micro Hybrid” badging is also present. There are two reflectors at the bottom, but a reverse parking camera has been removed. A rear wiper is provided. The new Mahindra logo on the rear is not glossy black.
Color Options: The Mahindra Scorpio Classic is available in a total of five colors: White, Black, Grey, Silver, and Red. The White and Black colors, in particular, contribute to its strong road presence.
Powerful Engine and Performance
The Scorpio Classic is powered by a 2.2-liter mHawk diesel engine. This engine delivers 130 bhp (brake horsepower) of power and 300 Nm (Newton-meters) of torque. It offers a mileage of approximately 15 kmpl (kilometers per liter). The vehicle comes with a 6-speed manual transmission across all variants.
Spacious Interior and Comfort
The interior of the Scorpio Classic features a black theme throughout. Remote central locking is available, but keyless entry is not provided. All four power windows are included.
Dashboard and Controls: The front dashboard view is bold. The steering wheel now sports the new Mahindra logo and has controls for the infotainment system and calls. The instrument cluster remains similar to the previous model, featuring analog speed and RPM meters, with a top speed of 180 kmph. A Multi-Information Display (MID) screen shows fuel, temperature, trip details, and average mileage. The steering offers tilt adjustment but no telescopic adjustment. Wiper and headlamp controls are also on the steering column.
Infotainment and Climate Control: The central console has a dual-tone finish. It features a new 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, an upgrade from the previous 7-inch system. While it offers USB and Bluetooth connectivity along with four speakers, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are not available. The top model comes with fully automatic climate control, while other variants feature manual AC.
Convenience Features: A light switch and an idle start/stop button are included. The dashboard has a wooden-type finish, adding to its appeal. There’s a 12V charging outlet and space to keep a mobile phone. A handbrake and glass holders are conveniently placed. The glovebox offers limited space for documents. Storage space on the dashboard is also limited but provides good bonnet visibility for driving. A sunglass holder, microphone, and a vanity mirror on the passenger side are provided.
Seating Arrangement: The seats are upholstered in fabric material, and the driver’s seat in the top model offers height adjustment. The car offers various seating options, including a 9-seater configuration and a 6-seater option with captain seats in the top model. The rear seats can be folded to create more space for carrying goods. The second row provides good legroom and support, similar to the previous Scorpio, with wide seats, adjustable headrests, and an armrest (without cup holders). Power window controls, storage, and bottle holders are also available in the second-row door panels.
