How Much CNG Can an Alto K10 Hold? A Real-World Filling Test
Many car owners wonder how much CNG their vehicle can truly hold, especially when the tank is completely empty. We conducted a real-world test with a Maruti Alto K10 to see exactly how much CNG goes in when the tank is completely drained. The car was beeping, showing the CNG tank was fully empty.
Alto K10 CNG Tank Capacity
The official capacity for the Alto K10’s CNG tank is 12 kg. However, it rarely takes the full 12 kg. This is usually because some residual gas might remain in the tank, and the pressure at the CNG filling station greatly affects how much gas can be filled. With good pressure, an Alto K10 might typically take around 8 kg of CNG.
Driving to the CNG Pump
Since the car’s CNG tank was completely empty, we drove to the nearest CNG filling station using petrol. The station was located about 4 to 5 kilometers from home.
The CNG Filling Process
Upon arriving at the CNG pump, the car was positioned for filling. This particular Alto K10 has an aftermarket CNG kit, which means the gas is filled from the front of the car. In cars with company-fitted CNG kits, the filling point is typically located near the petrol fuel lid. The filling process began, and we monitored how much gas was being added. The amount of gas that can be filled is directly related to the pressure at the pump; higher pressure allows more gas to enter the tank. During this fill, the pressure observed was 200 bar. If the pressure had been 250 bar, more CNG could have been filled.
How Much CNG Went In?
With the Alto K10’s CNG tank completely empty, the car took exactly 7.5 kg of CNG. The total cost for this amount of gas was ₹473.75. The price of CNG at the time of filling was ₹62.50 per kilogram.
CNG Cost and Final Reading
The car was filled with 7.5 kg of CNG, costing ₹473.75 in total. This amount was for a completely empty 12 kg capacity tank. After the filling was complete, the car was started and switched from petrol mode to CNG mode. The CNG gauge inside the car then displayed all bars full, confirming that the CNG tank was now full.
Key Takeaways: Alto K10 CNG Full
This test shows that an Alto K10, with a 12 kg CNG tank capacity, can hold about 7.5 kg of CNG when starting from a completely empty tank. The exact quantity can vary slightly depending on the filling station’s pressure, but this gives a clear indication of how much CNG goes into an empty Alto K10.
