Recycle Your Old Car: Benefits and Process at Lucknow’s Scrapping Facility
Do you own a vehicle older than 15 years? It might be time to consider recycling it! A new vehicle scrapping facility, Moto Scrapline, has opened in Lucknow. This facility helps you dispose of your old vehicles responsibly, offering many benefits for you and the environment.
Why Recycle Your Old Vehicle?
Recycling old vehicles is crucial for our environment. In India, over 1 crore vehicles are more than 15 years old. These older vehicles are significant polluters. They release 4-6% more carbon dioxide (CO2) into the environment compared to newer cars. This increased emission contributes to air pollution.
To combat this, government rules encourage vehicle scrapping. You can recycle any vehicle, whether it’s a private car or a commercial vehicle, at facilities like Moto Scrapline.
Benefits of Scrapping Your Vehicle
Scrapping your old vehicle comes with a range of advantages:
- Financial Discounts: When you buy a new vehicle after scrapping, you can get a 3% discount on the new vehicle.
- Road Tax Reduction: You may see a 20-25% reduction in road tax for your new vehicle.
- Insurance Rebates: Many insurance providers offer rebates when you present a scrapping certificate.
- Dealer Bonuses: Car dealers often provide exchange bonuses if you trade in your scrapped vehicle’s certificate.
- RBSF Bonus: You might also receive an RBSF bonus, adding up to a good amount.
- No RTO Hassle: The facility handles the complete deregistration process, saving you trips to the Regional Transport Office (RTO).
- Local Employment: Vehicle scrapping centers also create local job opportunities.
- New Vehicle Production: Recycling helps car manufacturers (OEMs) create new vehicles using recovered materials.
The Vehicle Scrapping Process
The scrapping process at Moto Scrapline is divided into several steps to ensure efficient recycling:
- Valuation and Depollution: First, your vehicle is weighed and assessed. Then, it moves to the depollution area where all fluids (like oil, coolant) and air are carefully removed.
- ELV Station 1: At the first End-of-Life Vehicle (ELV) station, items such as number plates and headlights are removed.
- ELV Station 2: The second station focuses on removing interior parts like seats, and exterior parts like bumpers and fenders.
- ELV Station 3: Key mechanical components are removed next, including axles, gearboxes, and the engine.
- ELV Station 4: At this stage, only the dashboard and steering wheel remain, which are then removed.
- ELV Station 5 (Baler Area): The remaining body shell or chassis is moved to the baler area. Here, it is cut and compressed into compact square boxes or “bales.”
What Happens to the Recycled Parts?
After the vehicle body is compressed, these bales of metal are sent to manufacturers, such as Tata, for recycling. The iron and metal from your old car can then be used to create new vehicles.
All the parts removed during the dismantling process are carefully sorted:
- Reusable Parts: Some components can be reused directly.
- Scrap Materials: Other parts go to a dedicated scrap yard. This yard has separate areas for different materials, including:
- Fiber (bumpers, dashboards)
- Foam
- Aluminum
- Batteries
- Various metals
- Headlights and taillights
- Rubber (tires, moldings)
Each type of material is separated to ensure proper recycling. Once the scrapping process is complete, you receive a Certificate of Deposit, which is essential for availing the benefits mentioned above.
