2024 Hyundai Venue S Plus Diesel Review: Price, Features, and Performance Details

Hyundai Venue S+ Diesel: Detailed Review & Features

The Hyundai Venue is a popular sub-compact SUV, known for its strong presence in its segment. We are looking closely at the updated Venue S+ Diesel variant, which brings several changes. This article provides a full review of its features, design, and performance, helping you understand this impressive vehicle.

Overview & Pricing

The Hyundai Venue comes in five variants: E, S, S+, SX, and SX Optional. It offers both diesel and petrol engine choices to suit different preferences. The S+ Diesel variant is priced at ₹10,70,000 (ex-showroom). The on-road price for this variant is around ₹12,50,000. For comparison, the SX Optional petrol variant, with similar features, is roughly ₹1,25,000 cheaper on-road than the diesel S+.

Exterior Design

The Hyundai Venue has a muscular SUV look. It features an updated front profile. The grille, even in base variants, looks good. Indicators are placed high up. It uses normal halogen headlights, which means no daytime running lights (DRLs) as seen in older models, indicating a cost-cutting measure. The lower grille is black, with a skid plate and an engine guard below. The car offers a good ground clearance of 195mm.

The roof includes silver roof rails and a shark fin antenna. Side mirrors are dual-tone, electrically adjustable, and have integrated indicators. The A-pillar is glossy black, and the B-pillar is matt black. Rear drum brakes are standard. Door handles are body-colored. A change at the rear includes halogen bulb tail lamps instead of the connected LED tail lamps found in higher variants, which is another cost-cutting detail.

Key & Security

The Venue S+ Diesel comes with a flip remote key. This key has buttons for lock, unlock, and boot unlock. A second normal physical key is also provided. All four door handles are body-colored.

Interior Comfort & Technology

Step inside the Venue S+ Diesel, and you’ll find a dual-tone dashboard. The door trims also feature a dual-tone design with door openers, power window controls for all four windows, bottle holders, and speakers. Fabric seats are standard and offer height adjustment and recline options for the driver.

The S+ variant includes an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with various connectivity options like Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, USB, and AUX. A reverse parking camera is included from this S+ variant onwards. Air conditioning is manual, with a switch placed centrally. For charging, there is a 12V power outlet, and both Type-C and Type-A USB ports are available. In higher variants like the SX, a wireless charging pad is also offered.

The diesel variant has a 6-speed manual transmission. There are two cup holders and a manual handbrake. An armrest with storage space is also present between the front seats. The glove box is a normal type and is not cooled.

The steering wheel is a standard unit with the Hyundai logo and is tilt-adjustable. The instrument cluster is fully digital, showing speed, RPM, fuel, temperature, and other car information. Controls for automatic headlamps and wipers are located on the steering column.

Rear passengers get AC vents with silver surrounds. Both Type-C USB ports are provided for the rear. A notable feature is the three adjustable headrests for rear passengers, a plus point even over some higher-segment cars. Three seatbelts are available for rear passengers, along with child seat mounts. The rear floor has a slight hump, which might make space tight for a third person.

Safety Features

Safety is a priority, with six airbags standard across all variants. These include front airbags, curtain airbags in the pillars, and airbags in the front seats. Other safety features include ABS with EBD, reverse parking sensors, a reverse parking camera (from S+ variant), traction control, and a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS). Seat belt reminders and an engine immobilizer are also included. Child locks are present on the rear doors.

Engine & Performance

The Venue S+ Diesel is powered by a 1.5-liter, 4-cylinder CRDi diesel engine. This engine produces 114 bhp of power and 250 Nm of torque. It offers an impressive mileage of approximately 23 kmpl. The diesel variant has a 45-liter fuel tank capacity and requires AdBlue.

For those preferring petrol, a 1.2-liter Kappa petrol engine is available. It produces 83 PS of power and 114 Nm of torque, with a mileage of around 17 kmpl.

Boot Space & Practicality

The Venue offers a good boot space of 350 liters, which can hold a significant amount of luggage. The rear seats have a 60:40 split ratio and can be folded to increase cargo room. A spare wheel, a normal steel rim of 15 inches (same size as the main wheels), is located under the boot floor, along with the full toolkit. A parcel tray for the boot is not included with this variant and needs to be purchased separately.

Conclusion

The Hyundai Venue S+ Diesel variant offers a strong package with its updated features, robust diesel engine, and comprehensive safety. It competes directly with popular sub-compact SUVs like the Maruti Brezza and Kia Sonet. With its comfortable interior and practical design, the Venue S+ Diesel makes a compelling choice in its segment.
