2024 Kia Carens Prestige Review: Price, Features, and Detailed Walkthrough

Discover the Kia Carens Prestige: Your Feature-Loaded 6 & 7-Seater Premium MPV

The Kia Carens is a premium, feature-loaded 6 and 7-seater MPV car. This article focuses on the Prestige variant, which is the second-base option. Beyond Prestige, there are Luxury, Luxury Plus, and X-Line variants, making a total of five available options. You can choose between diesel and petrol engine specifications. The Kia Carens starts from an ex-showroom price of 10.45 lakh for the base model, with the top model reaching over 20 lakh.

Striking Exterior Design

Front Profile The Kia Carens features Kia branding at the top of its front profile. It boasts a glossy black front grille with a grey finish slide. Daytime Running Lights (DRLs) are positioned higher up, while normal halogen-based headlights are below. Front parking sensors are included, along with a black lower grille and an engine guard. The car offers a ground clearance of 195 mm. It also has dual wipers with washer placement and roof rails.

Side View The Carens Prestige is available in multiple color options including black, silver, white, red, blue, and grey. This variant comes with 15-inch steel wheels and wheel covers. It has disc brakes at the front and drum brakes at the rear. The tire profile is 195/65 15 inches. The side features black cladding, body-colored electric adjustable outside mirrors with integrated indicators. Roof rails are also present. The fuel tank capacity is 45 liters for the petrol variant, with diesel options available. The car comes with a 3-year, unlimited kilometer warranty.

Rear Design The rear of the Kia Carens features connected taillights, though only the side sections illuminate fully. A prominent Kia logo is centered, with “Carens” badging on the left. A reverse parking camera is located near the nameplate. There is no rear wiper or defogger in this variant, but it includes a high-mount stop lamp, an integrated spoiler, and a shark fin antenna. The rear bumper is dual-tone, equipped with four reverse parking sensors, a towing option, and a skid plate.

Boot Space The Kia Carens offers a generous 216 liters of boot space with the third row in use. For more cargo room, the third-row seats can be folded in a 50:50 ratio, expanding the boot space to over 500 liters. This makes it easy to carry large luggage. The boot area includes glass holders, USB ports, a boot light, and hooks. A toolkit, jack, and spanner are stored beneath the boot floor. The spare wheel is a normal steel type, located under the car. The Carens provides better boot space compared to other cars in its segment.

Dimensions The dimensions of the Kia Carens are: Length of 4540 mm, Width of 1800 mm, and Height of 1708 mm. The wheelbase measures 2780 mm. The car also features quarter glass, but chrome garnish is not included in this variant.

Luxurious and Spacious Interior

Dashboard and Controls The interior of the Carens Prestige features a dual-tone dashboard. It includes a touchscreen infotainment system and automatic climate control. The driver’s door trim is also dual-tone, with a grey finish handle. It offers controls for all four power windows, door lock/unlock, and ORVM adjustments. Fabric seats with height adjustment and recline options are provided.

The car comes with a flip remote central locking key, featuring Kia branding and buttons for lock, unlock, and boot unlock. The steering wheel has Kia branding, controls for the Multi-Information Display (MID), and telephonic/infotainment functions. It is tilt-adjustable. The instrument cluster is fully digital, displaying a speedometer, RPM meter, and a central MID screen with various information like drive info, user settings, and fuel gauge.

The 8-inch touchscreen supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, as well as USB and AUX connectivity. A reverse parking camera provides good quality visuals. AC controls include buttons for fan speed, temperature adjustment, and air flow. Additional features include a 12V charging outlet, Type-A and Type-C USB ports, and a switch to turn front parking sensors on/off. There’s also a hill descent control button and storage space for a phone. The car comes with a 6-speed manual transmission, two glass holders, a manual handbrake, and an armrest with storage. The glove box offers a normal amount of space. Other interior amenities include a manually adjustable IRVM, sun-glass holder, and yellow roof lights. The sun visor on the driver’s side has a ticket holder, and the passenger side has a vanity mirror.

Seating and Comfort The second row offers roof-mounted AC vents with adjustable fan speed, allowing passengers to control the airflow. Two Type-C USB ports and a small storage space are available. Passengers can comfortably sit in the second row, with recline options for the seats and good thigh support. The seats are 60:40 split-foldable and feature an armrest. The seating material is semi-leatherette with fabric inserts. Three-point seatbelts are provided for all passengers in the second row, along with sun blinds for protection from direct sunlight.

Third-Row Experience Accessing the third row is easy due to a one-touch tumble fold feature for the second-row seats. The third row offers adjustable headrests and 50:50 split-foldable seats. Passengers in the third row get glass holders, Type-C USB ports for charging, and dedicated AC vents. Three-point seatbelts are also present for safety. While legroom is adequate for a 7-seater, thigh support may be slightly compromised for taller adults.

Powerful Engine Options

The Kia Carens offers both petrol and diesel engine options. The 1.5-liter four-cylinder petrol engine produces 113 PS of power and 144 Nm of torque, delivering a mileage of 17 kmpl. Alternatively, you can choose the 1.5-liter CRDi VGT diesel engine, which generates 114 bhp of power and 250 Nm of torque, offering a mileage of 21 kmpl.

Top-Tier Safety for Peace of Mind

The Kia Carens prioritizes safety with features like ABS with EBD, six airbags, reverse parking sensors, a reverse parking camera, Traction Control System (TCS), Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), Electronic Stability Program (ESP), seatbelt warnings, an engine immobilizer, and crash sensors.

Variants and Pricing

The Prestige petrol manual transmission variant of the Kia Carens has an ex-showroom price of 12.97 lakh. Its on-road price is approximately 13.95 lakh (in Lucknow). The diesel iMT variant can cost over 16 lakh on-road.
