2024 Kia Sonet HTE (O) Review: Base Model with Sunroof, Features, and Price

Discover the Kia Sonet HT Optional: Base Model with a Sunroof!

The Kia Sonet is a popular compact SUV, and its HT Optional variant offers a unique feature for those seeking value. This model brings the joy of a sunroof even in its base trim, making it a standout choice against competitors like the Ford Venue, Tata Nexon, and Maruti Brezza. Let’s explore what this special Sonet has to offer.

Exterior Design Highlights

The Sonet HT Optional presents a robust and stylish exterior. The front profile features a gloss black finish and a black lower grille, giving it a sleek look. The side profile includes 15-inch steel wheels with wheel covers, disc brakes at the front, and drum brakes at the rear. The tires are 195/65 R15. Body-colored outside mirrors and door handles add to its premium feel, avoiding the less appealing matte black finish often seen in base models.

At the rear, the car boasts LED taillights, “Sonet” and “Kia” badging, and a yellow nameplate light. It comes with two reverse parking sensors in the bumper, which are standard. However, this base variant does not include a rear wiper, defogger, or a reverse camera. A high-mount stop lamp and a power antenna are located at the top. The fuel filler cap is for diesel, with a capacity of 45 liters.

Interior Comfort and Technology

Step inside the Kia Sonet HT Optional and you’ll find a practical and comfortable cabin. A major highlight is the sunroof, a rare offering in a base model in this segment. While an audio system is not included, the car comes standard with six airbags, a significant safety feature. The seats are upholstered in fabric, offering a comfortable ride.

The dashboard design is clean, though it might feel a bit empty without an audio system. The instrument cluster is fully digital, displaying RPM, speed, fuel gauge, and temperature. It also includes important information like TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System) and various warning lights. The steering wheel features a Kia logo and is tilt-adjustable, with media controls on one side.

For convenience, the front doors have power window controls, while the rear windows are manual. The outside rearview mirrors (ORVMs) are electrically adjustable. The car features manual AC controls, a hazard light switch, and a 12V charging outlet along with Type-C USB ports. A 6-speed manual transmission is available for the diesel variant, and there are two glass holders, a handbrake, and an armrest with storage. The glove box offers additional storage, and a plain sun visor is on both sides. Halogen roof lights illuminate the cabin.

Safety Features

Safety is a priority in the Sonet HT Optional. It comes equipped with a comprehensive set of features even in its base model:

  • ABS with EBD (Anti-lock Braking System with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution)
  • Six Airbags (Standard across all variants)
  • Reverse Parking Sensors
  • Speed Alert System
  • Traction Control
  • TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System)

These features ensure a secure driving experience for occupants.

Engine Options and Performance

The Kia Sonet HT Optional is available with both diesel and petrol engine choices:

  • 1.5-liter Four-Cylinder Diesel Engine: This engine delivers 114 BHP of power and 250 Nm of torque. It offers an impressive mileage of over 20 kmpl, paired with a 6-speed manual transmission.
  • 1.2-liter Petrol Engine: This option provides 82 BHP of power and 115 Nm of torque. It offers a mileage of around 18-19 kmpl.

Both engines are designed to offer a balanced performance for city and highway driving.

Cargo Space and Rivals

The Sonet HT Optional provides a generous 392 liters of boot space, which is ample for luggage. The rear seats are 100% fold-down, offering flexibility for carrying larger items. A full-size 15-inch spare steel wheel and a toolkit are also included in the boot. The car also features two fixed headrests in the rear and three-point seatbelts. Its competition includes other popular compact SUVs such as the Mahindra XUV300, Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, and Maruti Brezza. The wheelbase is 2500 mm.

Pricing

The Kia Sonet HT Optional offers competitive pricing for its feature set:

  • HT Optional Petrol Variant:
    • Ex-showroom: Rs. 8.19 Lakh
    • On-road (Lucknow estimate): Around Rs. 9.26 Lakh
