Tata Altroz XMA: Features, Specs, and Price of the Premium Hatchback

Introduction

The Tata Altroz XMA is a premium hatchback model. It is the second base model, with the base range starting from the XE. This car offers a blend of style, practical features, and robust build quality.

Key Features Overview

The Altroz XMA comes equipped with several appealing features. It includes a sunroof. The outside mirrors are adjustable and can be folded. The car also features wheel covers. For ease of use, it comes with a flip remote central locking key, offering functions like lock, unlock, and follow-me-home lights. A standard manual physical key is also provided.

Exterior Design

The Altroz XMA presents a great look from the front. The car shown is in a grey color. The front grille has a glossy black finish and proudly displays the Tata logo in the center. It is fitted with automatic headlights, which are halogen-based. Side indicators are also present. This XMA variant does not include DRLs (Daytime Running Lights) or front fog lamps. It has a towing option and a black lower grille.

Wheels and Side Profile

The Altroz XMA is equipped with 16-inch wheels and wheel covers. For braking, it has disc brakes at the front and drum brakes at the rear. The tire profile is 185/60 R16 radial. Indicators are placed on the front fenders. The outside mirrors are finished in glossy black and are auto-foldable, meaning they fold and unfold automatically when the car is locked or unlocked. The A-pillar matches the body color, while the B-pillar has a matt black finish. A practical design element is that all doors open wide at a 90-degree angle, making it easy to enter and exit the car. The fuel filler cap is suitable for both petrol and diesel.

Dimensions and Practicality

The Altroz XMA provides good dimensions and space for a hatchback car. It offers a ground clearance of 165 millimeters. The car’s length is 3990 millimeters, its width is 1755 millimeters, and its height is 1523 millimeters. The wheelbase measures 2501 millimeters. The fuel tank capacity for the petrol variant is 37 liters. It boasts a spacious boot of 345 liters. The boot includes a parcel tray and hooks capable of holding up to 3 kg. The spare wheel, which is a normal steel rim, along with the jack and toolkit, is located beneath the boot floor. In CNG variants, the presence of twin cylinders will reduce the available space in the lower boot area.

Interior Comfort and Controls

The car’s doors feature a dual-tone design and include power window controls, a door opener, a speaker, and a bottle holder. The seats are upholstered in fabric. The dashboard also has a dual-tone finish. This XMA variant comes with a sunroof. However, an audio system is not provided in this model. Steering-mounted controls are present, but they will become functional only after an audio system is installed. Speakers are integrated into the doors, but they too require an audio system to operate. This second base model does not include rear AC vents. Rear passengers will find sufficient legroom and thigh support. There are grab handles with hooks, and two fixed headrests. The rear seats are 100% foldable.

On the driver’s side, you will find controls for all four power windows and for adjusting and auto-folding the outside mirrors. The driver’s seat offers both height adjustment and recline options. The car features a manual transmission with ABC pedals and a dead pedal. An idle start/stop button is also included.

The instrument cluster includes an RPM meter, a speedometer with markings up to 220 km/h, and a multi-information display (MID). The MID provides information such as fuel level, temperature, trip details, average mileage, range, and audio information. The steering wheel is tilt-adjustable. Other interior conveniences include automatic headlights and rain-sensing wipers. The center console features a hazard light switch and manual AC controls for fan speed and flow. It has a Type A USB port and a 12V charging outlet. There is blue lighting visible near the charging outlet. Besides the five-speed manual transmission, an automatic DCA option is also available. The interior also includes a handbrake, two glass holders, and two airbags as a standard safety feature. The glove box is deep, providing good storage space for various items and documents. The IRVM (Inside Rear View Mirror) is manually adjustable. The roof light is a bright white LED, and there is a microphone. The electric sunroof is controlled via a dedicated button. The driver-side sun visor includes a ticket holder, and the passenger-side sun visor has a vanity mirror.

Engine Performance

The Altroz offers a range of engine options to choose from:

  • 1.2-liter, 3-cylinder Petrol Engine: This engine delivers 86 BHP of power and 114 Nm of torque. It offers a claimed mileage of approximately 19 kmpl.
  • CNG Variant: The CNG version, which is based on the 1.2-liter petrol engine, produces around 72 BHP of power and 95-96 Nm of torque. It boasts a claimed mileage of roughly 26 kmpl.
  • 1.5-liter, 4-cylinder Turbocharged Diesel Engine: This engine generates 90 PS of power and 200 Nm of torque. The diesel variant provides a claimed mileage of over 20 kmpl, typically ranging from 22 to 23 kmpl.

The engine bay is neatly arranged, featuring the battery compartment, coolant reservoir, and proper insulation under the bonnet for reduced noise.

Safety Features

The Altroz is recognized for its robust build quality and has achieved a 5-star safety rating. It is equipped with numerous safety features, including ABS with EBD, dual airbags, reverse parking sensors, a reverse camera system, seatbelt warning, an engine immobilizer, a crash sensor, automatic headlights, and rain-sensing wipers.

Pricing and Competition

The XMA petrol variant has an ex-showroom price of ₹7 lakh. The on-road price is mentioned as approximately ₹97,000. The Altroz competes in its segment with other popular models such as the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Hyundai i20, and Toyota Glanza. Its key strengths include its strong build quality, sporty aesthetics, and the availability of petrol, CNG, and diesel engine options.
