Explore the Renault Kiger: A Comprehensive Overview of the Compact SUV
The Renault Kiger is a popular compact SUV known for its muscular looks and practical features. Available in a range of variants, it caters to different needs and budgets. Let’s take a closer look at what this car offers.
Available Variants
The Kiger comes in five main variants:
- RXE: This is the entry-level or base model.
- RXL
- RXT
- RXT Optional
- RXZ: This is the top-of-the-line model.
Striking Exterior Design
The Kiger boasts a strong road presence, especially in its black color option.
- Front Profile: It features a large logo prominently placed in the center of a matte black front grille. Even the base model includes DRLs (Daytime Running Lights) on the sides, which is a standout feature in its segment. Headlights are standard halogen units, with indicators positioned below the DRLs. The lower grille is completely blacked out. The car offers a generous ground clearance of 205mm.
- Side Profile: The roof is plain but comes with large silver roof rails, offered even from the base model. The base model features 16-inch black steel wheels, without wheel covers. It uses MRF tires with a section of 195/60R16. Front wheels are equipped with disc brakes, while the rear has drum brakes. The car includes travel color cladding on the sides. The ORVMs (Outside Rear View Mirrors) are body-colored and have integrated turn indicators. Both the A-pillar and B-pillar are also body-colored. Door handles are in a matte black finish.
- Rear Profile: The Kiger’s rear design is muscular, featuring C-shaped taillights that house the indicators. A logo is centered on the tailgate, with ‘Kiger’ badging below it. This variant does not include a rear wiper or defogger. A high-mounted stop lamp is present, along with an integrated spoiler and roof rails, both offered as standard. The rear bumper is black and includes three reverse parking sensors. A yellow light illuminates the license plate.
Functional Interior Features
Stepping inside, the Kiger’s interior is practical and designed for comfort.
- Dashboard and Controls: The dashboard is entirely black. This base model does not come with an audio system, but it does include manual AC controls. The driver gets a fully digital instrument cluster, similar to those found in other compact cars. This cluster displays a tachometer, digital speedometer, trip information, mileage, range, fuel bars, and temperature bars. Interestingly, the cluster does not have a glass cover, allowing you to touch the display directly. It also provides information like average fuel economy (e.g., 14.4 kmpl) and service interval. A TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System) is included, which alerts you if tire pressure is low. The steering wheel is plain and fixed, offering no adjustment. Manual controls for headlamps and wipers are located on either side of the steering wheel.
- Seating and Comfort: The car comes with fabric seats. Rear seats have fixed headrests and are 100% foldable, though not in a 60:40 split configuration.
- Convenience: The doors have black trims. Rear doors feature manual window winders, as power windows are not available in the rear for this variant. Gloss black accents are present on the rear door trim. Bottle holders are provided in the doors. A 12V charging outlet is available. Storage spaces are found in multiple areas, including below the AC controls and near the gear lever. The gearshift is a 5-speed manual, with an automatic option available in other variants. A non-slidable open storage space and an armrest with a joint storage compartment are also present.
- Safety and Security: Two airbags are provided. The glove box offers ample space for documents and other items. The IRVM (Inside Rear View Mirror) is fixed. The cabin features a white LED light. The driver’s sun visor includes a ticket holder, while the passenger’s sun visor is plain. Child locks are present on the rear doors. The door handles are in matte black, and the car uses a normal key for manual locking and unlocking, requiring each door to be locked individually.
Dimensions and Boot Space
The Kiger offers a balanced size for a compact SUV:
- Length: 3991 mm
- Width: 1750 mm
- Height: 1605 mm
- Wheelbase: 2500 mm
- Boot Space: A significant 405 liters of boot space is available. Its deep design contributes to the generous capacity, though it might require a bit more effort to load and unload items. There is no parcel tray in this variant. The spare tire is a 14-inch steel rim, two sizes smaller than the main tires, and is located beneath the boot floor along with the jack and tool kit. Hooks are also provided in the boot.
- Fuel Tank Capacity: The fuel tank has a 40-liter capacity for petrol.
Engine Performance and Fuel Efficiency
The Kiger offers different petrol engine options:
- 1.0-liter 3-cylinder Non-Turbo Petrol Engine: This engine produces 71 BHP of power and 96 Nm of torque. It offers a claimed mileage of 18-19 kmpl.
- 1.0-liter 3-cylinder Turbo Petrol Engine: This more powerful option delivers 100 PS of power and 152 Nm of torque. It also claims a similar mileage of 18-19 kmpl. Both engine options provide a good balance of performance and fuel efficiency for city and highway driving.
