2024 Tata Tigor XZA+ iCNG AMT Review: Features, Performance, and Automatic CNG Benefits

Tata Tigor iCNG Automatic: Your Next Smart Sedan

The Tata Tigor iCNG Automatic is here, setting a new benchmark in its segment. This car is the first sedan to offer an automatic transmission with CNG, a combination you won’t find in other cars in this class. We are looking at the top-of-the-line XZ+ iCNG variant, which combines convenience with fuel efficiency.

Tigor iCNG Automatic: A Segment First

The Tata Tigor iCNG Automatic stands out as a pioneering car. While other cars in this segment offer CNG, the automatic transmission alongside it is unique to the Tigor. This sedan comes with a 4-star safety rating, ensuring peace of mind for its occupants.

The Tigor is available in four variants: XE, XM, XZ, and the top-end XZ+. The base model starts around ₹6.30 lakhs (ex-showroom), with the top model reaching approximately ₹10 lakhs.

Striking Exterior Design

The Tigor boasts an attractive design from every angle.

Front View: At the front, the car features a chrome-inserted grille with a unique Tata design pattern and the Tata logo. A lower chrome-inserted grille is also present. The setup for the front engine and suspension is visible underneath. It comes with dual wipers, a washer, and rain-sensing wipers. Automatic headlamps are also a key feature.

Side Profile: On the side, you’ll notice 14-inch hyper-style steel rims, which give the appearance of alloy wheels. These are fitted with Apollo radial tires (175/65 R14). If you opt for the petrol top model, you’ll get 15-inch alloy wheels. The outside rearview mirrors (ORVMs) are finished in glossy black, are auto-foldable, and have integrated indicators. A CNG sticker is visible, indicating its fuel type. The roof is plain, and a chrome garnish runs along the side profile, enhancing its look.

Rear View: The rear of the Tigor looks attractive, especially in the blue color. Other available colors include red, white, silver, and grey. The Tata logo is centered at the back, with a reverse parking camera located just below it. The Tigor badging is on the left side. It features LED tail lamps in white, with integrated indicators. A defogger is present on the top. The car also carries iCNG and Vocal for Local stickers, along with a high-mount stop lamp and a small integrated spoiler. A shark fin antenna is also included. The body-colored bumper houses two ultrasonic parking sensors and reflectors, complemented by a chrome strip. The spare wheel is placed underneath, along with the exhaust pipe.

Intelligent Fueling and Boot Space

The Tata Tigor iCNG Automatic features a fuel filler cap for both petrol and CNG. The petrol tank has a capacity of 35 liters. For CNG, it can hold 8-9 kg, depending on the pump pressure.

One of the clever aspects of the Tigor iCNG is its boot space. Despite being a CNG car, it offers a generous 419 liters of boot space. This is achieved by cleverly placing two 30 kg CNG cylinders, maximizing the luggage area. A boot light is also provided. The spare wheel can be accessed by opening a bolt.

Feature-Rich Interior

Step inside the Tigor, and you’ll find a well-appointed cabin designed for comfort and convenience.

Dashboard and Infotainment: The dashboard features a dual-tone black and beige finish. Above, there’s a switch for the hazard light. The AC vents are black with chrome surrounds. It has a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system powered by Harman, offering connectivity through Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, USB, and AUX. The reverse parking camera provides average quality. Below the screen, you’ll find controls for fog lamps, the central lock/unlock button, a switch to convert between CNG and petrol, and a boot unlock button. The panel around these controls has a glossy black finish.

The Tigor also features automatic climate control, allowing you to adjust fan speed, temperature, and airflow. The display for these functions is integrated into the touchscreen. For charging, there’s a 12V charging outlet, along with Type A and Type C USB ports. Small storage spaces are also available.

Comfort and Convenience: The car offers automatic transmission, a first-in-segment for CNG. The seats are made of high-quality leather, a feature not commonly found in competing cars like the Dzire or Aura. The driver’s seat comes with height adjustment and recline options. The rear passenger area offers excellent legroom and kneeroom. However, a minor drawback is the absence of rear AC vents. The rear seats also have fixed headrests. Child seat mounts are provided, and three seat belts are available for rear passengers.

The door trims are dual-tone, featuring black and beige. All four door handles are chrome-finished. The doors include power window controls, door openers, tweeters, speakers, and bottle holders. The glove box is cooled, and a tablet holder is positioned on top for small items. There is a manually adjustable IRVM and a microphone for calls. Both sun visors include vanity mirrors.

Driver-Side Features: The driver’s door handle has a request sensor for keyless entry, allowing you to lock and unlock the car. All four power window controls are on the driver’s door, along with controls for the ORVMs. The automatic variant features two pedals. The car is equipped with a push-button start/stop. The fully digital instrument cluster displays important information like CNG and petrol levels, RPM, trip meters, outside temperature, and even Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) data. Keyless entry, smart key, automatic headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, digital cluster, and TPMS are among the premium features.

Performance and Efficiency

The Tata Tigor is powered by a 1.2-liter, 3-cylinder Revotron petrol engine.

  • Petrol Mode: This engine produces 86 PS of power and 113 Nm of torque, offering a mileage of approximately 20-21 km/l.
