Mahindra Scorpio N Z8 Luxury Review: Features, Performance, and Real-Life Experience

The Powerful Mahindra Scorpio-N: A Detailed Look

The Mahindra Scorpio-N is a popular choice for those looking for a muscular and imposing 6 or 7-seater SUV. This article provides a close look at the top-tier Z8 Luxury Automatic variant, highlighting its features, design, and performance.

Mahindra Scorpio-N Variants and Price

The Mahindra Scorpio-N offers several variants to choose from, including Z2, Z4, Z6, Z8, and the Z8 Luxury, which stands as the top model. The entry-level Z2 base variant starts at ₹13.26 Lakh (ex-showroom). For the top model, the on-road price can go up to ₹27-28 Lakh in cities like Lucknow.

Striking Exterior Design

The Scorpio-N, especially in black, boasts a commanding presence. The front design includes LED projector headlamps, integrated indicators, and DRLs. Fog lamps are positioned below, and two front parking sensors add convenience. The lower grille is blacked out, complemented by a silver-finish skid plate and an engine guard for added protection. The vehicle also features a double wiper and washer system.

From the side, the Scorpio-N looks robust. Its dimensions are impressive: 4662 mm in length, 1917 mm in width, and 1857 mm in height. Chrome garnish, shaped like a scorpion’s tail, adds a unique touch. The SUV comes with a smart flip key that includes buttons for lock, unlock, and boot access. A blue cap indicates the AdBlue/urea tank. Silver-finish roof rails and an antenna are present, alongside 18-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels. The body-colored ORVMs (Outside Rear View Mirrors) have integrated indicators and are electrically adjustable and foldable.

The rear profile of the Scorpio-N is equally muscular. It features Scorpio-N badging, large LED tail lamps, a rear wiper, defogger, and a high-mount stop lamp integrated into a large spoiler. A shark fin antenna is placed on the roof, and a request sensor is found on the boot gate. The bumper includes a reverse light, reflector, and two reverse parking sensors, along with an option for a tow hook. The spare wheel is conveniently placed underneath, and a reverse parking camera is located below the Mahindra logo.

Comfortable and Feature-Rich Interior

Stepping inside the Scorpio-N, you’ll find a dual-tone black and coffee interior theme. The doors feature silver-finish openers, power window controls, gloss black handles, speakers, and bottle holders. The seats are upholstered in a leather finish (coffee and black) with electric adjustability for lumbar and thigh support. Keyless entry is available on the driver’s side door handle. The driver’s area includes controls for power windows, ORVM adjustments, front sensor on/off, headlamp adjustment, and an engine start/stop button.

The steering wheel features the Mahindra logo and steering-mounted controls for easy access to various functions. The instrument cluster combines an analog RPM meter and a speedometer (marked up to 220 km/h). A multi-information display (MID) provides details like trip information, average mileage, range, TPMS (Tyre Pressure Monitoring System), digital speed, vehicle information, navigation, and settings. Automatic headlamp controls and rain-sensing wiper controls are also present.

The dashboard showcases a black and coffee finish with leather-touch elements. An 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The sound quality from the Sony sound system is noted to be good. The reverse parking camera provides average quality with sensor information displayed on screen. Below the touchscreen, there are controls for home, back, settings, volume, and on/off.

The Scorpio-N features dual-zone AC with adjustable fan speed. Other controls include a hazard light switch, traction control, and hill descent control. It offers three distinct drive modes: Zip, Zap, and Zoom. An idle start/stop button and a camera on/off shortcut button are also available, along with an SOS switch. While there’s storage space, wireless charging is not offered. There are two USB ports and information displays for seat belts and airbags. This Z8 Luxury Automatic variant comes with an automatic transmission, with manual and 4×4 (all-wheel drive) options also available in other variants. The cabin provides two glass holders, a center armrest with storage, a manually adjustable IRVM, a sunglass holder, white LED cabin lights, and a microphone. A notable feature is the electric sunroof, which can accommodate one person. The glove box is illuminated with a white light, and tweeters are present for enhanced audio.

Seating and Space

The second row offers comfortable seating with good legroom, kneeroom, and thigh support. Rear AC vents with fan speed control, a Type-C USB port, and additional storage are provided for rear passengers. Adjustable headrests and an armrest further enhance comfort.

The third row, as common in most 7-seater vehicles, offers average space, suitable primarily for children due to limited thigh support. Seats can be tumble-folded for easy access. This row includes speakers, handles, white LED lights, and a 12V charging outlet, but it does not have rear AC vents. When all seven seats are in use, the boot space is reduced.

Engine Options and Performance

The Mahindra Scorpio-N is available with both diesel and petrol engine options.

The 2.2-liter, 4-cylinder mHawk diesel engine delivers 172 BHP of power and 400 Nm of torque, offering an approximate mileage of 15 kmpl.

The 2.0-liter, 4-cylinder petrol engine produces 200 BHP of power and 380 Nm of torque, with an estimated mileage of 10-12 kmpl.

Safety Features

Safety is a priority in the Scorpio-N, which comes equipped with ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) with EBD (Electronic Brakeforce Distribution), 6 airbags, reverse parking sensors, a reverse parking camera, ESP (Electronic Stability Program), TPMS, traction control, an engine immobilizer, and crash sensors.

Warranty and Color Choices

The Scorpio-N comes with a warranty of 3 years or 1 Lakh kilometers. Available color options include Black, White, Red, Gold, Silver, and Deep Forest.
