Mahindra Scorpio Classic S: A Muscular 7-Seater SUV for Indian Roads

The Mahindra Scorpio Classic S is a powerful and muscular 7-seater SUV designed for Indian families and adventure seekers. This base S variant offers a compelling package for those looking for a robust vehicle with excellent road presence and the flexibility to customize.

Why Choose the Scorpio Classic S Base Model?

Opting for the base S model of the Mahindra Scorpio Classic presents a smart choice, especially if you have a budget of around 15 lakh rupees. The main advantage is the ability to purchase the vehicle and then personalize it with modifications as your budget allows. The Scorpio Classic is known for its strong and imposing presence on the road.

The Mahindra Scorpio Classic is available in two main variants: the S (base model) and the S11 (top model). While the top S11 variant offers more premium features like projector headlamps, DRLs, alloy wheels, and an infotainment system, the S variant focuses on core strength and value.

Exterior Design and Features

The Scorpio Classic S boasts a formidable look. It features the new Mahindra logo at the front and a black-colored grille. The headlamp setup includes vertical halogen lamps, but DRLs are not present in this base model. Indicators are placed below the headlamps. Certain elements like fog lamps and a skid plate on the front bumper are usually added later as accessories by owners, contributing to its muscular appeal.

From the side, the SUV maintains a simple yet strong stance. It comes with 17-inch steel wheels, and wheel covers can be added later. The front wheels have disc brakes, while the rear wheels feature drum brakes. The tire profile is 235/65 R17. The door handles are finished in a matt black color, and the ORVMs (Outside Rear View Mirrors) are foldable manually but not electrically adjustable. The base model features a plain roof without roof rails. Ground clearance for this SUV is a significant 209 mm, making it suitable for varied terrains.

At the rear, the SUV proudly displays the new Mahindra logo and “Scorpio Classic S” badging in chrome. It has large backlights and reflectors in the bumper. Two reverse parking sensors are also present. A rear wiper and washer are not available in the base S variant, but can be added as an accessory. The spare wheel is conveniently placed at the bottom.

Interior Features and Comfort

The interior of the Scorpio Classic S features a dual-tone dashboard. The base model does not come with an audio system, allowing owners to install a touch screen or 2-DIN system as per their preference and budget. AC vents are present for passengers, along with bottle and glass holders. The seats are upholstered in fabric, though seat covers are often added later as accessories.

The Scorpio Classic is a true 7-seater SUV. The third-row seating can comfortably accommodate two people, and these seats can also be folded down to create additional boot space. The fuel tank capacity is 60 liters, with an inside release option for the fuel flap. There’s also a separate fill point for diesel fluid (Urea).

Driver’s Cockpit and Controls

The driver’s cockpit in the S variant features a normal ignition system. The instrument cluster includes an RPM meter on the left and a speedometer marked up to 180 km/h on the right. A multi-information display (MID) screen in the middle shows temperature, fuel gauge, and trip information. The steering wheel has the Mahindra logo but no mounted controls in this base variant. Headlight and wiper controls are manual.

The central console houses AC vents in a black finish and manual AC controls. There is a USB charging port, a manual transmission shifter, and a manual handbrake. Interestingly, all four power window controls are located in the central console, not on the doors. Storage compartments are provided for documents. The interior rearview mirror (IRVM) is manually adjustable, and the passenger-side sun visor includes a vanity mirror.

Engine and Performance

The Mahindra Scorpio Classic S is powered by a 2.2-liter diesel engine. This robust engine is designed to deliver efficient performance, offering a mileage of approximately 15 to 16 kilometers per liter.

Safety Features

For safety, the Scorpio Classic S comes equipped with essential features such as reverse parking sensors, two airbags, a seat belt warning system, and child safety locks.

Dimensions and Colors

The Mahindra Scorpio Classic S measures 4456 mm in length, 1820 mm in width, and 1995 mm in height.

This powerful SUV is available in a range of five attractive colors: Black, White, Silver, Red, and Grey.

Pricing and Market Presence

The Mahindra Scorpio Classic S has an ex-showroom price of around 13 lakh rupees. On-road, the price in cities like Lucknow is approximately 15 lakh rupees. The Scorpio Classic is known for its commanding presence on the road and strong demand. It typically has a waiting period of 4 to 5 months, which can vary based on the specific variant. This SUV competes with other popular vehicles like the Tata Safari in the Indian market.
