The Mahindra Scorpio N is a popular seven-seater SUV known for its strong presence. Today, we’re taking a close look at its base model, the Z2, and how it can be upgraded with accessories to rival higher variants.
Mahindra Scorpio N: Overview and Variants
The Scorpio N is a best-selling seven-seater SUV. While we explore the base Z2 model, it’s worth noting the range of variants available: Z2, Z4, Z6, Z8, Z8 Select, and Z8 Luxury. Buyers can choose between powerful diesel and petrol engine options. Transmission choices include manual, automatic, and a 4Xplore option, which offers more versatility compared to some competitors.
Front Design and Features
The base Z2 model features a bold, matte black front grille with a Mahindra logo at its center. The lower grille is also matte black. It comes with halogen headlights (reflector-based) and indicators positioned below. Unlike higher variants, the Z2 does not include Daytime Running Lights (DRLs). However, it has housing for fog lamps, which can be installed later as an accessory.
Underneath, an engine guard provides protection. The ground clearance is approximately 187 mm, which is around 190 mm. The windshield is equipped with dual wipers.
Side Profile and Wheels
From the side, the base model shows its distinction through matte black Outside Rear View Mirrors (ORVMs) and door handles. The ORVMs are manually foldable and include integrated indicators. The A-pillar matches the body color.
The Z2 model comes with 17-inch steel wheels as standard. However, the model reviewed here features alloy wheels installed as accessories, costing approximately 62,000 to 65,000 INR for all four. The tire profile is 245/65 R17. Black cladding runs along the lower part of the side, adding to its rugged look. Roof rails can also be added as an accessory for about 6,000 INR.
All four wheels are equipped with disc brakes, providing strong stopping power.
Rear Styling and Boot Space
The rear of the Scorpio N looks impressive, especially in black or white, which are its top-selling colors (green and red are also available). The base model does not have chrome inserts at the rear, but a chrome kit can be added as an accessory for around 28,000 INR.
It features a Mahindra logo in the center and “Scorpio N” branding. Large LED taillights enhance its modern look. The Z2 model does not come with a rear wiper or defogger. It includes a high-mounted stop lamp and a spoiler, which is an accessory costing 8,600 INR. A shark fin antenna is present on the roof.
Matt black door handles are found at the rear. The bumper includes reflectors and two reverse parking sensors. A reverse parking camera is installed as an accessory, estimated to cost 6,000 to 7,000 INR.
The boot door opens sideways, like classic SUVs. Inside, with the third-row seats folded, there’s ample space for luggage. Toolkits are neatly stored, and the spare tire is located underneath the vehicle. The third row does not have AC vents.
Dimensions and Fuel Capacity
The Mahindra Scorpio N has a length of 4662 mm, a width of 1917 mm, and a height of 1857 mm. Its wheelbase measures 2750 mm.
The fuel tank capacity is approximately 57 liters. For the diesel variant, both diesel and AdBlue (urea) need to be filled.
Interior Comfort and Dashboard
The interior features a dual-tone dashboard in coffee brown and black. The cabin provides good legroom and headroom, making it comfortable for passengers. The seats are upholstered in fabric.
For rear passengers, there are AC vents and a Type-C USB charging port. The second row seats offer adjustable headrests for two passengers and a fixed one for the third. They also include an armrest and have a 60-40 split-fold function for added versatility.
The base model does not include seat height adjustment for the driver, only a recline option. Footrests can be added as an accessory for about 9,000 INR.
Driver’s Controls and Technology
The Z2 model comes with a standard flip key without remote central locking, but this can be upgraded to a remote central locking system for around 3,200 INR.
The driver’s door trim is dual-tone and includes controls for all four power windows, door lock/unlock buttons, and a speaker.
The dashboard features an analog instrument cluster with an RPM meter and a speedometer marked up to 220 kmph. A Multi-Information Display (MID) screen in the center shows trip details, average mileage, range, and audio information. The steering wheel carries the Mahindra logo and includes controls for telephony and infotainment. The steering is tilt-adjustable.
The center console houses a touchscreen infotainment system with Bluetooth, USB, and Aux connectivity. A reverse camera, shown in the review, is an installed accessory. Manual AC controls are present, allowing adjustment of airflow and temperature. Other features include a Type-C and Aux port, a dedicated phone storage area, and a six-speed manual transmission (for the diesel variant). A handbrake and two cup holders are also found in the center console. The armrest is made of hard plastic and includes storage space underneath.
The Scorpio N Z2 comes with two airbags for safety, located in the front. The glove box offers ample space for documents and other items. Manual IRVM and plain sun visors are standard.
