2025 Mahindra Scorpio N Z8 Select Review: Price, Features, and VFM Variant Details

Mahindra Scorpio N Z8 Select: An Overview

The Mahindra Scorpio N is a car that needs no introduction. Since its launch, this popular SUV has been selling remarkably well. It is known for its muscular design, excellent features, and strong road presence. The Z8 Select variant is highlighted as a great value-for-money option. The base model starts at ₹14,000, while the Z8 Select Diesel Automatic variant is priced at ₹19,56,000 ex-showroom. This variant comes with LED headlamps, leather seats, and remote central locking, making it a well-equipped choice.

Commanding Exterior and Road Presence

The Mahindra Scorpio N in black color presents a formidable appearance. Its robust build ensures a powerful presence on the road, making it one of the top-selling 7-seater SUVs in its segment. The car offers a first-class impression thanks to its muscular looks and overall design.

Detailed Front Profile

At the front, the Scorpio N features a chrome grille with six vertical slats and the Mahindra logo in the center. The headlamps are LED, similar to the top model, but are manually adjustable. White LED DRLs are present, along with fog lamps. The indicators are placed higher up. The lower grille is black, and a silver-finished skid plate adds to the robust look. The ground clearance for this SUV is approximately 187 mm. While some might find this slightly less for an SUV of this size, it performs well when navigating various terrains.

Side Profile and Key Features

From the side, the Scorpio N features dual wipers and washers on the windshield. The Z8 Select variant includes an electric sunroof. Silver finish roof rails are also present. The ORVMs (Outside Rear View Mirrors) are electrically adjustable and foldable, and they incorporate indicators. The side profile also has chrome elements, which are added later. The car comes with a warranty of 3 years or 1 lakh kilometers, which can be extended. It rides on 17-inch alloy wheels with 245/65 R17 tires. The front wheels have disc brakes, while the rear wheels have drum brakes. The black cladding on the side adds to its rugged appeal.

Practical Rear Design and Boot Space

The rear of the Mahindra Scorpio N looks striking with its LED backlights that blink upon unlocking. The center features the Mahindra butterfly logo, and below it, a reverse parking camera is integrated. Chrome garnish is also visible on the rear. Other features include a rear wiper, defogger, high-mount stop lamp, and an integrated spoiler. A shark-fin antenna is located on the roof. The rear bumper is equipped with two reverse parking sensors, reverse lights, and reflectors. A leg guard is fitted at the rear. The spare wheel, a normal steel rim, is located underneath the vehicle.

The boot space in the Scorpio N opens like the Scorpio Classic. When the third-row seats are folded, there is ample space, suitable for five people traveling with luggage. If the third row is upright, there is still about 100 liters of boot space for small bags. Underneath the boot floor, a jack and other tool kit items are stored.

Comfortable and Feature-Rich Interior

Inside, the Scorpio N features a dual-tone dashboard with black and coffee colors, offering a premium feel. The dashboard includes soft-touch elements. The Z8 Select variant boasts leather seats, similar to those in the top model, enhancing comfort and luxury. Rear passengers benefit from AC vents with adjustable fan speed, and a Type-C USB port is provided for charging devices. The car offers excellent legroom and headroom, ensuring a comfortable ride for all occupants. Storage pockets for magazines are also available. This variant is equipped with six airbags for enhanced safety. The second row has two adjustable headrests and one fixed one, along with an armrest. The seats are 60-40 split, allowing flexibility for passenger and luggage space.

Driver’s Cabin and Advanced Controls

The driver’s door trim also features the dual-tone black and coffee color scheme. It includes controls for all four power windows, central locking, and ORVM adjustments. The leather seats in the Z8 Select variant offer lumbar and thigh support, along with height adjustment and recline options. The driver’s area includes a dead pedal and a lever for opening the bonnet. Headlamp height can be manually adjusted. Unlike higher variants, this Z8 Select model uses a key start ignition rather than a push-button start.

The instrument cluster is analog, displaying an RPM meter and a speedometer with markings up to 220. The Multi-Information Display (MID) in the center shows various details like seatbelt warnings, tire direction, fuel information, temperature, average fuel consumption, distance, trip details, digital speed, vehicle information, navigation, and settings. The steering wheel features the Mahindra logo in the center, with controls for the MID and cruise control on the left, and telephone and infotainment controls on the right. Both headlamps and wipers are manually controlled.

The center console sports a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system that supports Android Auto and allows USB connectivity for music. The reverse parking camera offers good quality and clarity, though a front camera is not available in this variant. Manual AC controls are present, along with switches for hazard lights, traction control, and hill descent control. The car offers “Zip, Zap, Zoom” drive modes and an idle start-stop button. Below the central console, there’s space for a phone and two USB ports. An indicator for the co-driver’s airbag status is also present. The car comes with an automatic transmission and two cup holders. The armrest features a leather-touch finish and includes a small storage compartment. A manual handbrake is also provided. The glove box offers decent storage space and features Scorpio N branding. AC vents have a grey surround, and airbag branding is visible on the pillars. The driver gets good visibility of the bonnet, making it easy to drive. The IRVM (Inside Rear View Mirror) is manually adjustable. A sunglass holder and a roof light with white LEDs are available. Sunroof controls and a microphone are positioned above the driver. A vanity mirror with white LED lighting and a ticket holder are found on the sun visors. The electric sunroof provides a decent opening size.

Powerful Engine Specifications

The Mahindra Scorpio N is available with both diesel and petrol engine options. The Z8 Select Diesel Automatic variant features a 2.2-liter, four-cylinder mHawk diesel engine. When the bonnet is opened, all four indicators turn on as a safety feature. The engine bay includes a battery compartment and proper insulation under the bonnet. The Scorpio N is highly regarded for its build quality, having received a 5-star safety rating.

The diesel automatic engine produces 172 bhp of power and 400 Nm of torque. For comparison, the petrol variant delivers 200 bhp and 370 Nm of torque. The diesel manual variant offers 370 Nm of torque. The Scorpio N also offers a 4×4 option. This powerful engine and robust design make the Scorpio N a strong competitor against other 7-seater SUVs like the Hyundai Alcazar, Tata Safari, and Innova Crysta.

Pricing and Comprehensive Safety

The Mahindra Scorpio N Z8 Select Diesel Automatic variant has an ex-showroom price of ₹19,56,000. The on-road price in Lucknow is approximately ₹22,90,000. For financing, a down payment of ₹1,90,000 could result in an EMI of around ₹20,000 for five years.

The car is equipped with a comprehensive list of safety features, including ABS with EBD, six airbags, reverse parking sensors, reverse parking camera, speed alert system, seatbelt warning, engine immobilizer, crash sensor, traction control, and ESP. These features contribute to its strong safety credentials and its 5-star safety rating.
