Exploring the Practicality and Features of the WagonR VXi CNG

The WagonR is a popular and practical compact car, often chosen for its space and efficiency. Let’s delve into the details of one of its variants, focusing on its features, design, and performance.

Introduction to the WagonR

The WagonR is available in several variants, starting with the base LXi, followed by the VXi, ZXi, and ZXi Plus, which is the top model. Above the base variant, an automatic transmission option is available. This car offers flexibility with both petrol and CNG fuel options. Visually, the car looks excellent in white. It provides a ground clearance of approximately 165 millimeters.

Design and Exterior Features

Starting with the front profile, the VXi variant does not include fog lamps. A towing option is present on the front bumper, and the lower grill is entirely black. The front engine and suspension setup are visible from below.

The car features 14-inch radial tires, sized 165/70 R14. It comes with disc brakes at the front and drum brakes at the rear. Indicators are placed on the fenders. The electrically adjustable Outside Rear View Mirrors (ORVMs), A-pillar, and B-pillar are all body-colored, maintaining a consistent look.

At the rear, the design is simple. The Suzuki logo and WagonR branding are visible. The taillights integrate indicators, reverse light, and brake light. Two reverse parking sensors are located at the bottom, along with reflectors in the bumper. The rear bumper is also body-colored. The rear suspension setup and exhaust pipe are visible, and a towing hook option is available.

Interior Comfort and Convenience

The interior features a dual-tone dashboard. The VXi variant includes an audio system and manual AC controls. For safety, two airbags are provided. The WagonR is notably spacious, offering good headroom and ample room for occupants. The rear seats come with fixed headrests and a practical 60:40 split-fold function, allowing for flexible cargo and passenger arrangements. Power window controls, speaker placements, and bottle holders are integrated into the doors. The seats are made of fabric and feature a dual-tone design.

Fueling Options and Capacities

The fuel filler cap allows for both petrol and CNG to be filled from the same spot. The petrol tank capacity is between 32-35 liters. For CNG, it can hold approximately 8-9 kilograms, depending on the pump’s pressure. The CNG tank, located in the boot, has a volume capacity of 60 liters. All door handles are body-colored.

Boot Space and Cargo Flexibility

The boot can be opened easily using a lever. Without the CNG tank, the boot offers about 341 liters of space. However, with the CNG tank installed, the boot space is reduced. Despite this, there’s still room for small bags. A spare tire, which is a normal steel rim, is also located in the boot. A parcel tray is included and can be removed as needed. The 60:40 split rear seats can be folded to further enhance cargo space.

Driver’s Zone and Dashboard Overview

On the driver’s side, the door trim is black with a grey door opener. It features controls for all four power windows, central locking, and ORVM adjustments. Speaker and bottle holder placements are also available. The dashboard is dual-tone. The fabric driver’s seat offers a recline option but no height adjustment. A lever for opening the fuel cap is located near the pedals. The car comes with manual transmission pedals, including a dead pedal. There is also a lever to open the bonnet.

Inside, near the driver, you’ll find a switch to convert between CNG and petrol modes, a traction control on/off switch, and headlamp adjustment controls. Upon turning on the ignition, the instrument cluster illuminates. The steering wheel features the Suzuki logo and a silver finish. It is tilt-adjustable, allowing the driver to set a comfortable position. Manual controls for headlights and wipers are present. The speedometer is marked up to 180 km/h. While petrol variants might include an RPM meter, the CNG variant features a small digital screen displaying CNG and petrol fuel bars, trip information, audio details, and range. A toggle button allows access to various information, including fuel range.

The center console houses the audio system with physical buttons, offering Bluetooth, USB, and Aux connectivity. A USB port is available for charging and music. Below, there’s a hazard light button and controls for the manual AC system, including fan speed, airflow, and temperature adjustment. A 12-volt charging outlet is also provided, along with a small storage space. The car features a five-speed manual transmission, though an automatic option is available with the petrol engine. A glass holder is also present. The handbrake is manual. Besides the steering wheel, a second airbag is positioned on the co-driver’s side. The AC vents are finished in black. The glove box is a standard size and does not offer a cooling function. The co-driver’s sun visor includes a vanity mirror.

Engine Performance and Fuel Efficiency

The WagonR offers two engine options. The variant with CNG is powered by a 1.0-liter, 3-cylinder petrol engine. If opting for the petrol-only VXi variant, a 1.2-liter, 4-cylinder petrol engine is available.

The 1.0-liter, 3-cylinder engine produces 57 BHP of power and 82.1 Nm of torque. This engine claims an impressive CNG mileage of up to 34 km/kg. The 1.2-liter, 4-cylinder petrol engine delivers 88 BHP of power and 113 Nm of torque, with a claimed petrol mileage of approximately 20 km/l.

Safety and Price

Safety features include Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), dual airbags, reverse parking sensors, a speed alert system, seat belt warning, engine immobilizer, crash sensors, and traction control.

Regarding pricing, there is an approximate difference of one lakh rupees between the petrol and CNG variants. For instance, a petrol variant might be priced around seven lakh rupees on-road.
