MG Comet EV: The Compact Electric Car Perfect for City Drives

Looking for a small electric car that’s ideal for city driving and daily local travel? The MG Comet EV stands out as one of the most compact electric cars in its segment, offering strong features and looks. Whether it’s for your daily commute to the gym or office, this car can easily handle up to 230 kilometers on a single charge.

Price and Variants

The MG Comet EV starts at an ex-showroom price of ₹7.98 lakh. The top model can go up to ₹9.98 lakh ex-showroom. You can find this car in different variants, including the base ‘Play’ model and the ‘Plus’ top model.

Compact Design and Exterior Highlights

One of the Comet EV’s biggest advantages is its compact size. With a length of less than 3 meters (specifically 2974 mm), it makes city driving incredibly easy. Navigating traffic, narrow streets, and finding parking spots becomes much simpler.

The car features a charming design with an “Electric” badge. It has stylish connecting LED backlights and a full LED setup for the headlamps. The front also boasts illuminated MG logos that light up at night, and connecting Daytime Running Lights (DRLs). The side mirrors include turn indicators and are electrically adjustable. You can choose from colors like green, white, and black, with a dual-tone option featuring a black roof. The ground clearance is around 165 mm.

Interior and Smart Features

Step inside the MG Comet EV to find a premium dashboard. The car offers a large 10.25-inch infotainment system and a similar sized 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster. You’ll also find AC controls with chrome finishes.

A key highlight is the “Internet Inside” badge, which means the car comes with over 55 car-connected features. These features can be updated using your phone, adding a lot of convenience. For instance, the smart key allows the car to automatically lock or unlock as you approach or walk away.

Charging and Performance

The MG Comet EV is equipped with a 17.3 kWh battery pack. It delivers 41 BHP of power and 110 Nm of torque. The company claims a range of 230 kilometers on a full charge. In real-world driving, you can expect around 150 kilometers.

Charging the car is straightforward with a regular 3.3 kW charger. It takes about 7 hours to fully charge the battery using a home charger. There is no fast-charging option available.

Driving Experience and Maneuverability

Starting the Comet EV is unique; simply press the brake pedal twice. There’s no separate engine start button. The car offers three drive modes: Normal, Eco, and Sport, allowing you to choose how you want to drive. The digital instrument cluster clearly shows important information like battery charge percentage and estimated range.

Its compact dimensions (1505 mm width, 1640 mm height) and the absence of a central hump on the floor make it easy to move between seats inside the cabin.

Practicality and Seating

The Comet EV is a four-seater. Accessing the rear seats requires folding the front seat forward. While rear seat space is average, passengers get a good view thanks to the large glass area.

Boot space is limited when all four seats are in use, enough for a small bag. However, if only two people are traveling, the rear seats can be folded down to create a much larger boot space, offering great flexibility for carrying more luggage. The car comes with a puncture repair kit, including a tire inflator and liquid, as there is no spare wheel.

Safety and Warranty

For safety, the MG Comet EV includes features like ABS (Anti-lock Braking System), two airbags, EBD (Electronic Brakeforce Distribution), Electronic Stability Control, and Geo-fence alerts. It also has reverse parking sensors and a reverse parking camera.

The car comes with a standard warranty of 3 years or 100,000 kilometers. The battery and motor get an extended warranty of 8 years or 100,000 kilometers.

The MG Comet EV is an excellent choice for anyone looking for a stylish, feature-packed, and easy-to-drive electric car for urban environments.
