Tata Tiago: India’s Affordable, Safe, and Feature-Packed Hatchback

The Tata Tiago stands out as a highly-rated and budget-friendly hatchback car in India. This car boasts a four-star safety rating, making it a strong choice for those prioritizing safety. It is also one of the most affordable hatchbacks, with prices starting lower than competitors like the Maruti Wagon R and Hyundai Grand i10 Nios.

Price and Available Variants

The base model of the Tata Tiago begins at an attractive price of just ₹5 Lakh. The XT variant, which is a popular choice, is priced at ₹6,35,000 (ex-showroom). The on-road price for this variant in Lucknow is around ₹7,29,000. The Tata Tiago offers multiple fuel options: petrol, CNG, and even an electric vehicle (EV) variant.

Safety First: Four-Star Rating

The Tata Tiago is known for its excellent build quality and a four-star safety rating. This makes it a very safe car in its segment. It comes with standard safety features across all variants.

Exterior Design and Features

The Tiago comes with a flip remote central locking key, which includes buttons for lock, unlock, and follow-me-home headlamps. A normal manual key is also provided.

At the front, the car features a Tata logo in the center and a glossy black front grille. It has basic halogen headlamps with integrated indicators. Fog lamps or DRLs are not included in the XT variant but can be added as accessories. The lower grille is black. The car offers a ground clearance of approximately 170 mm. It has dual wipers and a plain roof, though higher variants may offer a dual-tone roof.

On the side, the Tiago XT variant sports 14-inch hyper style steel wheels with a stylish dual-tone finish. It has disc brakes at the front and drum brakes at the rear. The tire profile is 175/65 R14. The outside rearview mirrors (ORVMs) are glossy black, electrically adjustable, and include turn indicators. The A-pillar and door handles are body-colored, while the B-pillar has a matt black finish.

The rear profile of the Tiago’s facelift model shows minimal changes, with the addition of a defogger. It includes a high-mounted stop lamp and a power antenna. The Tata logo and Tiago badge are centrally placed. The XT variant also features a reverse parking camera. The tail lamps are normal halogen bulbs, incorporating indicators and a reverse light. The bumper is dual-tone and includes two reverse parking sensors. Additional scratch protection is also installed at the rear.

Comfortable and Feature-Rich Interior

The interior of the Tata Tiago XT variant features a dual-tone dashboard. The door trims are also dual-tone and include power window controls, a black door opener, speakers, and bottle holders. The seats are made of fabric, though seat covers seen are optional accessories. The driver’s seat offers height adjustment and recline options.

The XT variant provides a touchscreen infotainment system and a reverse parking camera. It comes with two airbags as a standard safety feature. The car has a new steering wheel and a full digital instrument cluster. Rear passengers do not have dedicated AC vents, but there is space for bottles and small items. The legroom and knee room in the rear are comfortable, and there are two fixed headrests and three-point seatbelts. The car also offers good headroom for passengers.

The steering wheel, which has an illuminated logo, is tilt-adjustable and includes controls for telephone and infotainment. Headlamp and wiper controls are manual. The digital instrument cluster displays the RPM meter, fuel gauge, speed, and other information like trip details, average mileage (around 11.3 kmpl observed, with a claimed 18-19 kmpl for petrol and 26 kmpl for CNG), and range.

The center console in the XT variant offers a traditional feel, while higher variants feature a larger 10.25-inch touchscreen. It has a hazard light switch and AC vents with glossy black and chrome accents. The 7-inch touchscreen, powered by Harman, supports Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, USB, and AUX connectivity, along with a reverse parking camera. Manual AC controls for fan speed, temperature, and airflow are present. There is also a USB port and a 12V charging outlet, along with some storage space.

The Tiago XT comes with a 5-speed manual transmission. An automatic transmission option is also available, and notably, the CNG variant offers an automatic option, a first in its segment. The interior also includes two glass holders, a manual handbrake, and a glove box with a tablet holder. The passenger sun visor has a vanity mirror, and the driver’s side has a ticket holder.

Boot Space and Dimensions

The Tata Tiago offers a decent boot space of 242 liters. It includes a parcel tray and a hook that can hold up to 3 kg. Below the boot floor, you’ll find a 13-inch steel spare wheel, which is one size smaller than the main tires, along with a jack and tool kit. In the CNG variants, the twin cylinders are placed in this area, still leaving usable space above.
