Tata Tiago XT Variant: Value and Features

The XT variant of the Tata Tiago is considered a very good value-for-money option. It comes equipped with useful features like a touchscreen infotainment system, a reverse parking camera, and remote central locking. The XT variant has also seen a price reduction, with approximately ₹65,000 off its on-road price. Previously, its ex-showroom price was ₹6,35,000, which has now decreased to ₹5,81,000. This means an ex-showroom benefit of ₹54,000 and an on-road benefit of ₹65,000.

Front Design and Features

The front of the Tata Tiago features a black grille with the Tata logo in the center. A chrome strip runs continuously from one headlamp to the other. It includes halogen-based headlamps with manual adjustment and integrated turn indicators. There are no fog lamps or DRLs in this variant. The lower grille is also black, and there’s an option for a tow hook. The engine bay is openly visible with no engine guard provided. The car offers a ground clearance of 170 mm.

Side Profile, Wheels, and Warranty

From the side, the Tiago features dual wipers and washers, and a plain roof. The A-pillars are body-colored. The ORVMs (Outside Rear View Mirrors) come in a glossy black finish and can be electrically adjusted from inside, though they do not auto-fold when locking or unlocking. The car comes with a standard warranty of 3 years or 1 lakh kilometers, which can be extended.

The Tiago XT is fitted with 14-inch steel wheels that feature dual-tone wheel covers and the Tata logo. It has disc brakes at the front and drum brakes at the rear. The tire profile is 175/65 R14. The B-pillars are black, and the door handles are body-colored.

Interior Look and Practicality

The interior of the Tiago features a dual-tone design. It includes a touchscreen, a reverse parking camera, manual AC controls, a digital instrument cluster, and a new steering wheel. The car has a fuel tank capacity of 35 liters, allowing for petrol refueling.

Rear Design and Dimensions

The Tata Tiago is a 4-star rated hatchback available with petrol, CNG, and electric (EV) fuel options. At the rear, it has normal drum brakes. The car has impressive dimensions: a length of 3767 mm, a width of 1677 mm, and a height of 1535 mm. The wheelbase measures 2400 mm.

The rear profile includes the Tata logo in the center, a Tiago badge, and a reverse parking camera. A defogger is visible, along with a high-mounted stop lamp and an antenna. The tail lights use normal halogen bulbs for indicators and reverse lights. The bumper is dual-tone and includes two reverse parking sensors. The rear suspension setup and exhaust pipe are also visible.

Boot Space and Storage

Accessing the boot is possible either from inside the car or by using the key. The Tiago offers a boot space of 242 liters, providing ample room for luggage. A parcel tray is included and can be removed. The rear seats can be folded down entirely (100%) to expand storage. Essentials like the jack, tool kit, and a normal steel spare tire are stored in the boot. For CNG variants, twin cylinders are offered, yet a usable boot space is maintained. There’s also a hook capable of holding up to 3 kg of weight.

Competitors and Color Choices

The Tata Tiago competes with models such as the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios and the Maruti Wagon R. It is available in a variety of appealing colors including White, Grey, Red, and Blue.

Cabin Comfort and Safety

Inside the cabin, the dual-tone door trims house power window controls, a matt black door opener, speakers, and bottle holders, along with some extra storage space. A child lock is also present. The seats are made of fabric and feature an updated color combination. Rear AC vents are not available. Legroom and thigh support are noted as average for the segment.

Safety features include two airbags (driver and passenger). The roof light is a white LED. Rear passengers get two fixed headrests and three-point seatbelts. ISOFIX child seat mounts are also provided, making it convenient for child seats.

Driver’s View and Controls

The car comes with two types of keys: a flip key with remote central locking (for lock, unlock, and follow-me-home lights) and a normal manual key. The B-pillars are black. The front door trims are dual-tone, similar to the rear, and include controls for all four power windows, ORVM adjustments, speakers, bottle holders, and additional storage.

The fabric seats for the driver and front passenger offer both height adjustment and recline options. Levers for opening the fuel flap and boot are located on the floor. The car features manual transmission pedals, and a lever to open the engine hood.

Digital Cluster and Steering Features

Upon entering the XT variant, the driver is greeted by a fully digital instrument cluster that displays various check lights. The new steering wheel prominently features the illuminated Tata logo. Controls for telephony and the 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system are integrated into the steering wheel. The steering wheel is tilt-adjustable. Manual controls for headlamps and wipers are also present.

The digital cluster provides essential information such as the RPM meter, a digital speedometer in the center, a fuel gauge, and temperature bars. It also displays audio information, range, trip A and B data, and average mileage. The observed average mileage is around 10.3 kmpl, while the claimed mileage for this car is between 19-20 kmpl.

Infotainment and Center Console

The dual-tone dashboard creates an appealing look. It features a hazard light switch and black AC vents with glossy and chrome surrounds. The 7-inch touchscreen, powered by Harman, supports Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, USB, and AUX connectivity. A reverse parking camera is included, which contributes to the XT variant being a value-for-money option, although it may experience slight lag.

Below the infotainment system are controls for the defogger and manual AC. These include knobs for adjusting fan speed, temperature, and airflow. A 12V charging outlet, a Type-A USB port, and some storage space are also available. The car is equipped with a 5-speed manual transmission. The center console features two glass holders and a handbrake. A small storage space is also present for rear passengers. The glove box is a standard type and includes a tablet holder.

Engine Options and Specifications

The Tata Tiago offers multiple powertrain options: petrol, bi-fuel (CNG), and electric (EV). The variant discussed is powered by a 1.2-liter, 3-cylinder petrol engine. The engine bay houses the coolant reservoir, battery compartment, and the ABS/EBD unit. Being a three-cylinder engine, it might produce some noise. The bonnet hood features proper insulation.

Performance and Fuel Efficiency

The 1.2-liter petrol engine generates 85 bhp of power and approximately 113-114 Nm of torque. The petrol variant delivers a mileage of 19-20 kmpl, which can vary based on driving style. For those opting for the CNG variant, the power figures will be slightly lower, but it offers an impressive fuel efficiency of 26-28 kmpl.

Pricing and Savings Post-GST

With the new GST adjustments, buyers can now save approximately ₹65,000 on the Tata Tiago XT petrol variant. The base model, which previously started at an ex-showroom price of ₹5 lakh, is now priced at ₹4,57,000. For the Tiago XT petrol variant, the ex-showroom price has dropped from ₹6,35,000 to ₹5,81,000, offering a benefit of ₹54,000 in ex-showroom price. The on-road price for the XT petrol is now ₹6,69,000, which reflects an on-road benefit of ₹65,000 compared to its previous pricing above ₹7 lakh.

For those interested in the XT CNG variant, its on-road price is ₹7,72,000. If you choose to finance the XT petrol variant with a down payment of ₹1,69,000 and finance ₹5 lakh, the EMI would be ₹15,000 for a 3-year term or ₹10,403 for a 5-year term.

Enhanced Safety Features

The Tata Tiago is packed with essential safety features, including ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) with EBD (Electronic Brakeforce Distribution), dual airbags, reverse parking sensors, a reverse parking camera, a speed alert system, seat belt warnings, an engine crash sensor, and ESP (Electronic Stability Program). These features contribute to its commendable 4-star safety rating.
